After the re-conquest of Kiska, the US and Canadian forces set up a 1,200-men strong garrison on the island. Unlike the Japanese, the US forces were heavily mechanised and and quickly constructed a sizeable base.

Virtually all of the clothing worn by our hosts is self made. The most interesting aspect for me was that both men and women make clothing. There is some specialization in terms of who makes which articles but there doesn't seem to be the same strict division of responsibilities that one sees in so many other cultures.

A noiva usou vestido of white da Só Núpcias e sapatos Luana Zabot, na cor rosa queimado ou rosé. As alianças de ouro branco, com brilhante na aliança da noiva foram levados para a cerimônia em fusquinhas retrô com laço de cetim. Taken on Thursday looking through the window of our friends canal boat which is their home. Just a few moments later down came the snow sooooooo..... we moored up and went into the pub for lunch. No more photography that day.
Not a great shot but it is the only one I took, it was too cold and wet. Must go back in the better weather as there is plenty of wildlife around and some nice scenery to be snapped up.

The betel leaves are chewed together in a wrapped package along with the areca nut and mineral slaked lime (calcium hydroxide). Yum! Other flavoring substances and spices might be added. The lime acts to keep the active ingredient in its freebase form, thus enabling it to enter the bloodstream. The areca nut promotes salivation (the saliva is stained red), and is itself a stimulant. Tobacco is sometimes added.

While stirring the curds, they broke up into smaller pieces than I intended, so after removing the whey I salted the curds and let them form a mat, which I cut into strips, then cubes to form my curds.
