Usually solitary, monk seals sometimes get together. A young, molting female (foreground) was making her way to the water after spending the night in the beach strand naupaka shrub. This male came ashore nearby and galumphed over to greet the female. They both lay in the sun for a while then go their separate ways. The male is RO40 “Ka’ena” born in 2006. The female is known as “Lina” RL98.
Endemic to Hawaii, this species of monk seal was established in the archipelago millions of years before the human populated main volcanic islands emerged above sea level. The original seal occupied islands have since receded to coral atolls and are part of Papahānaumokuākea. Recent population estimates indicate a slight increase to 1,570 individuals throughout the Hawaiian archipelago. However, Hawaiian monk seals remain endangered and among the rarest of marine mammals.

If there are those who have not yet made Roman Blinds, Sally's advice - Do Not Start!

In Thailand stray dogs are everywhere and are known as Soi dogs (alley dogs). They are fed but left to roam around and although they mostly keep away from humans they can be a nuisance especially if you are cycling as they like the thrill of the chase.
Up here on Monkey Hill just outside Phuket Town they have an uneasy relationship with the macaques that also live there. We saw soi dogs being chased away by the monkeys, but we also saw plenty of tender moments like this where the soi dogs were groomed by the monkeys.
This vehicle is making the rounds of the Northern Neck Car Shows as a precursor to entering the Concours d’Elegence in the spring. I think once the owners figure out the make and get it fully restored, it will be hard to beat. It has not been on the road since 2019 so it may need a lot of work. Do we think the colors are blue and green, or black and blue, or is that just the way the light is hitting it? Any help on the make and year will as always be appreciated!
A Canada Goose makes waves as it glides through the calm water. I watched him as he got further and further away, and ended up on the opposite site of the canal with his mate at their nesting site.
At the beginning of June I realized that the process of settling in isn’t much of a process. It’s more like jumping right in, trying to find your way and not being okay for a while, wanting everything to hurry up. Until some day, suddenly you realize that you are in fact okay. It will always feel more like a surprise rather than something that just takes time. But that’s it — The moment you first think about settling in is the moment you actually have.
I have another three weeks of my internship at Coffee Circle left and as much as I enjoyed most of the work, the amount of time I spend there is just a bit too much at the moment. I basically postponed everything that is not work in order to spend all of my free time exploring Berlin, meeting friends and being with Daniel. I desperately need some rest and am really looking forward to having more time for myself again soon. :)
SY 1225 assembles rakes of wagons into her train for mine #3.
When runing backwards, they seem to use a flagman to stand on the back of the tender to read any signals from the lucky sod with flags standing out in the cold wind at the back of the train.
