A re-edit of an old shot from 2016. I've been going through the archives, trying to make a bit more space on HD.
A Mom photographs her family against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset at Cardiff State Beach. Whether with a cell phone or a DSLR photography is about making memories.
After securing our donuts in the town of Monterey Virginia we headed out into the beautiful countryside of Highland County looking for the Maple Sugar shack that we had visited almost one year ago to the day and were happy to find it. There are quite a few of these Maple Sugar making shacks around the county and many are open during the Maple Fest for visiting. These two gentleman are the same two men that were there last year. So knowledgeable in the process of making maple syrup they generally took turns talking to visitors and explaining the cooking down process but just this one time I was able to snap a shot with both of them in it. I think the one in the background with the purple hat looks like Compo on the "Last of the Summer Wine" a British Sitcom that ran from 1973 to 2010. It's very dark in the shed and the only heat is from the fires used to boil down the sap. Unfortunately for us, but happily for them, they had already sold all their Maple Syrup.

I do not like to photograph people because I always have to seek their permission to do so. These two of my neighbors agreed but on condition that I give them those photos. It was a very fun experience. First they posed by leaving their shovels and standing side by side, serious as in church . When I shot them the way they wanted, I showed them the photos and they were pleased. Then I asked them if they allowed me to shoot their tools and they continued to work on making concrete and I was able to shoot them as they worked.
Talking to them, I learned that my neighbors thought I am a weird woman and they call me 'Rambo'. They never know what bush I am hiding behind, passing by they often see me at some strange place, roof, tree or crawling through the grass just like Rambo.
I unsuccessfully explained to them that is a best way to take a good wildlife photos.

There is a population of these birds in southern California. They seem to be expanding their range. While most native birds breed in spring, these birds breed in late summer/fall. The males grow these long tail feathers during breeding season and use the tail to attract mates
Day 3 of the black and white photo food challenge. One day I will make efforts to shoot with a hand model so that I don't have to struggle and contort myself to make a shot. I am set up in my basement next to the only isolated North facing window in the house. Sourdough bread is a labor of love. I had a starter in my fridge but when I went on vacation it went bad so I decided to order one from King Arthur Flour. It is a starter that has been around since the 1700's. This is my first loaf of bread attempted with the new starter, I am excited!
Usually on the 23rd June there are fires on our mountains, they are called Johanni Feuer (Johannes Fires). This year the mountain here was surrounded by clouds so I couldn't see what they'd done. This image you see was taken in 2020, i.e. during the pandemic. When you zoom in you can see that the cross is half done and the little lights show you were people stand or work on the display.
I have no idea how difficult it is to move around up there and I also don't know about coming down again safely after dark. Maybe one of the mountaineers on Flickr can enlighten me. I do know that someone got killed a few years ago, so it is probably not "a walk in the park"

Had a date with my sweet husband and made it to see Bohemian Rhapsody, I'm late to the party but at least I made it. Left so heart broken and inspired at the same time. I remember when I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody and I was hooked, I called the radio station constantly begging to hear it again and again. Thank you Freddy Mercury for all that you were, you are still making a difference in the world.
