Reddish egrets hunt by racing around in shallow water, hoping to scare up some fish. Much of the time they spread out their wings as they do so. Alas, when this one did it was running away from me, and much farther away. There's always next time!

John (@canahtam on Instagram) is the founder of the #BostonPortraitMeets (organized on the Instagram account @portraitmeet) that I've been enjoying so much! Here he is shooting a portrait of Andrea (@stinsonandrea) at Saturday's epic meetup (epic because over 100 people showed up!).

She is making bread, but what is this woman thinking about? Her husband? What she was reading by the fire last night? When I ask that question, I think of Spinoza, the 17th century European freethinker. Let's toss our assumptions about her aside. So I asked NotebookLM to do a podcast about how new ideas in the 17th century found their way to the middling sort in England.

Do you know, in all my 48 years, I have never made a rainbow and when it appeared I was really WOWED!! Obviously I realise it's the same way the beautiful big ones appear in the sky, but it's never happened before and I'm just going to let myself believe that this one was a special gift just for me ;-) Anyway, got something extra to keep me occupied through the rest of lock down now :-))

Doing what we can until Spring finally arrives (which won't be for awhile...more snow is coming tonight or tomorrow).

Happy Wednesday to you all :) I'll be catching up today!!

Here's to a good school year! I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best for these kids. Our sky is still highly polluted from smoke, yesterday we had the worst air quality in the world again. The sunrise was red so I had to try to capture it quickly and then get the day going. New schedule, new school year, hold on tight.

With my evening plans of chasing the Jail south to Leslie killed off by the crew telling me they were going north to Lansing. I left Mason for Grand Ledge instead to light up train L304 heading west to Lake O. When I arrived I made quick work of setting my flashes but that was very quickly put on a dead crawl as I heard something walking through the Tall Grass. With the first lights set i went to figure out what the hell was following me around. Well as I neared the moving grass I saw a dark cute Little cat but it was no cat it was a fucking cute little skunk. Him and I talked for a few minutes and made an agreement we would not interrupt each other. Me foaming him looking for tasty bugs, as I set the lights I saw him several more times and he never gave me any fear or issues. As the crew worked the west end of Ensel they would trip the circuit and the signal popping up to clear.. after the 5th time of this and me grabbing the camera I gave up and sat in my car until I could finally hear the far off distant humm of 645's. A pair of 40-2's and a small train cruise through Grand Ledge passing the former C&O search light.
