After the train traveled out of view, I continued on with my original plan, which was to wander downtown Beaumont.
I spent a fair bit of time around the Fire Museum of Texas, and the adjoining C.O. "Pete" Shelton Plaza, home to The Texas Firefighters Memorial, a 9-11 Memorial, the The World's Largest Working Fire Hydrant.
The museum is housed in the former main fire station, built in 1927. It houses numerous fire engines and other historical memorabilia. These are pictures I took there in 2024. flic.kr/s/aHBqjBjDnc
Using Pure Data and Processing, Cracktux, the French-Taiwanese artistic duo, takes the audience through a digital journey of experimental laptop performances, created with open source software.
Both are active members of Openlab, a collaboration of artists who engage themselves in the aesthetics and politics of Free Open Source Software Culture.
Cracktux audio-visual creations are bold, striking and wonderfully relaxing.

Lily and I visited one of the new murals that were painted during the recent VCB Mural Festival on our walk today.
Also, Spring has sprung. The wildflowers (and "feral" flowers in vacant lots) are starting to bloom.
The 5th Annual Beaumont Mural Festival was held March 21st and 22nd. I went on the 21st, to the main area of the Civic Center and Riverfront Park, as well as a couple of the other locations that murals were being painted.
De Jong and van Kampen performed together during the e-culture fair on 23-10-2003 in Paradiso, Amsterdam, at okno public01 in Brussels on 26-5-2006, and at piksel06 in Bergen, Norway on 05-10-2006.
They seek to investigate possible affects for networked playing using an ever evolving collection of software designed to compose musical meaning on the fly. Their computers' network interfaces are used for email but also to have patterns and audio processes interrelate, causing a highly diverse field of small particles, evolving textures as well as swift and drastic movements.

The Beaumont Visitor and Conventions Bureau had a four day long Mural Festival, inviting artists from across the country to create new murals around town.
This particular mural went up on a building at the same intersection where the historic Jefferson Theater and The Art Museum of Southeast Texas are located

Celebrating its 25th year in 2017, the annual ARTS FIRST festival celebrates student and faculty creativity with hundreds of music, theater, dance, film and visual arts presentations at venues throughout Harvard University.
Students and staff from the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard offered festival goers the chance to work with clay in the Make Art area of Science Plaza.
Things are changing around here. Lot's of things. I have a lot of life to live, and I am ready to get out there and live it. I don't want to see another year go by, and all I've accomplished is to post daily on flickr. NOT that there's anything wrong with that! I love flickr, and as I stated here I would not be making such changes without the support I've gotten here. Still it is time to move on. No I am not quitting flickr, but I am changing a lot of habits that eat my time. I have a very poor sense of time, and when I get on computer it gets worse. How many days have I lost "checking" comments??? I'd be afraid to find out. I will be here a bit less. No more daily photo. Possibly a daily post, but I will be processing the gazillion photos I have that were intended for various projects, rather than taking snapshots like this to meet an agreement that doesn't serve me well. I will be doing some other things in addition to getting back to ART. I have never been athletic, but that is no reason to not be in good shape. So, I started running, and this is my favorite place to run. In October I start a beginners training class to prepare for my first 5K, the Towamencin Turkey Trot just before Thanksgiving, and my birthday!!! I am psyched!!!

I spend some time near Roudnice nad Labem - Czech republic. It was very sunny day and I noticed these beautiful sunrays coming from behind the cloud. God's work is amazing!
It can be hard to be motivated to make more, and to be proud of what we create.
We can compare ourselves to others, and our confidence gets punched in the chest.
There is so much noise out there; so many talented people.
I agree.
How do I maintain my belief in my work to keep going; keep hustling; keep promoting what I do?
You'll never feel ready to start. I never have, but always regretted never starting. So just get moving.

Watercolor and archival pen on paper, glitched in Procreate. In early 2020 I created a handful of drawings/paintings of Australian wildlife threatened by the out-of-control fires that ravaged large swathes of the continent’s wilderness, in late 2019. I even collaborated with some excellent experimental musicians from the DMV area, to have them interpret one of the animals through music, whose work was to be a part of a compilation to help raise money for Australian wildlife organizations. Unfortunately, by the time the project was near completion, the Pandemic hit, deeming the project seemingly irrelevant. The reason I say “seemingly” is because the truth is, making any attempt to help wildlife on any part of the planet is never a lost cause, especially on a continent whose unique biodiversity is declining at a more rapid pace than anywhere else in the world. So, COVID be damned, the compilation will be released in some form later this year, be it in physical format, digital or both. In the meantime I went back and reworked the drawings in Procreate on my iPad, using the “glitch” function. In many ways, the glitchy manipulation of the imagery lends itself to the music, but also creates a visual context of the animals existing in a modern, human-dominated, non-natural world, extremely prone and vulnerable to natural (and not-so-natural) disasters. The “glitching” of the images themselves weren’t just a matter of pushing a button on a fancy app, but instead a very carefully controlled chaos, with lots of thought and consideration put into the placement and composition of things. The Beaumont Art League was founded in 1943, and is the oldest arts organization in the city.
In 1950, it opened what is now the Art Museum of Southeast Texas at this location on the grounds of the South Texas State Fair. While the location for the BAL moved several times over the years, the museum stayed at this location.
In 1969, the BAL and AMSET went their separate ways, and the BAL moved back to this location, where it has been since.
This mural is a recent addition, and depicts the main gate to the fair.
