Beaumont's 4th annual Mural Festival, sponsored by the Beaumont CVB, was held in March.
Both the inside and outside of the Civic Center received new murals, as did an office supply company just north of the downtown area.
In addition, there were temporary wooden cubes set up on the grounds between the Civic Center, main library, and the Julie Rogers Theatre to showcase the talent of local artists.
The weekend following the Mural Festival, I went back to Riverfront Park to take pictures of the completed mural cubes and panels. Since it was a nice day, there were people out boating and (I'm guessing) picnicking.

We got a bit wet on our art aventures today.
At nearly 10,000 square feet, "Genesis" is one of the largest murals in the state.
My family decided to see just how much togetherness we could stand, so we took a three week vacation in June. We drove from the eastern edge of Texas to southern California, took a side trip to northern Nevada, went back to California, and finally drove back home to Texas. It was an adventure, for sure.
We planned our route to visit as many county courthouses as possible along the way.
There is archeological evidence of prehistoric human occupation in the area of modern day Pecos County radiocarbon dated to 1300 CE, with other finds possibly dating as far back as 2000 BCE. Traders from Chihuahua City, Chihuahua passed through the area in 1839/40. The first permanent US settlement was the army outpost of Fort Stockton, established in 1859 and the Butterfield Overland Mail arrived to service the fort the same year. The town of St. Gall was established near the fort in 1868.
Originally part of Bexar Territory, and later Presidio County, Pecos County was established in 1871, and formally organized in 1875, with St. Gall as the county seat. During the 1880s, the fort was closed, causing an economic slump due to lost trade and employment, and the county lost nearly all of its small landholders. By the 1890s, only twelve ranches remained, with only one under 500 acres. In 1883, portions of the county were split off to form Reeves and Terrell Counites and in 1885 another portion was used to form Val Verde County. That said, Pecos County is currently the second largest county in the state. Today, most agriculture in the county revolves around sheep ranching, with a smattering of cattle, angora goats and hogs in the mix.
Founded by Peter Gallagher, an Irish born stonemason, merchant, explorer, and land developer in 1886, the town of St. Gall was designated the county seat of Pecos County when it was organized. However, the name of the town was never popular with the citizens, and it was officially renamed Fort Stockton, after the US Army post, in 1881.
Completed in either 1911 or 1912 depending on which source you consult, the current Classical Revival building that sits on an expansive lot near a park is the result of an extensive remodel of the original 1883 courthouse. A copper dome that was added during the remodel was removed in the 1930s.

My final stop was at the site of a proposed cocktail bar. The building was still under renovation, and the business hadn't yet opened when the murals were painted.
