The Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the third annual Beaumont Mural Festival on March 2nd and 3rd. In addition to over a dozen new murals painted on buildings (and an underpass) around town, there were also nine plywood "cubes" at the main festival grounds that got decorated, along with a Mardi Gras float.

My daughter and I did a Sunday ramble so that she could work on an assignment for a photography class. Not being one to pass up an opportunity, I took my camera along, as well.

Audun Eriksen has worked with experimental musical instrument since 1994, designing instruments for the Norwegian performance group "the Four". This includes both acoustical and electronic instruments, often played with unusual and/or theatrical movements. Many instruments have been constructed from recycled materials including circuitbent electronic toys.
"Piece for salad oscillators"
Triple oscillator controlled by the resistance of six "live" salads. Slight variations in resistance over time as the salad collapses creates complex waveforms and the plants modulate eachother.
"Concert with circuitbent toys"
The toys are modulated by flesh (current passed through the body of the performer) and mouth cavity resonance (sound passed through the mouth of the performer and then amplified). Pitch is controlled by preprogrammed light pulses using basic stamps, other microcontrollers and by other techniques.
The controls of the toys are contructed to make the act of playing interesting to watch as well.

At approximately 10,000 square feet, this mural, titled "Genesis", is one of the largest murals in the state. It was one of the murals sponsored by the Beaumont CVB during the 2023 Mural Festival.
spring_alpha is a multi-player game set in an industrialized housing estate whose inhabitants are attempting to create their own autonomous society in contrast to that of the regime in which they live. The game serves as a "sketch pad" for testing out alternative forms of social practice at both the 'narrative' level, in terms of the game story, and at a 'code' level, as players are able to re-write the code that runs the simulated world. The original narrative is based on a series of drawings by Chad McCail, "Spring" and "Evolution is Not Over Yet", which also shape the game's visual style. The original stories and images become a framework that is fleshed-out by people's own ideas and experiences.
The basic aim of the game is to change the rules by which the society in that world runs. This is done through re-writing the code that simulates that world, creating new types of behaviour and social interaction. How effective this becomes depends on the players' ability to spread these new ideas into the society.
The project is built on top of a FLOSS gaming and simulation system called Social Versioning system (SVS), which incorporates forms of FLOSS development practices (such as networked collaborative coding) into the game engine.
Painted during the 2023 Beaumont Mural Festival, this mural celebrates the contributions of Charles Charlton and Titus Pollard to the education of blacks in early Beaumont history
The elementary school in what is called the Charlton-Pollard Neighborhood is named after them.
This mural is located at the Irving Street underpass under Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Earweego are a Cologne based media art duo, working with computer composition, live performance and A/V installations. In the year 2000 Echo Ho and Hannes Hoelzl came together playing electro improvisation, calling themselves acustic Nomads. Weego the cat is a soundwalker and ear carrier; it travels the world to reveal the unheard.
Currently their development draws them towards digital audiovisual group improvisation, mainly using open source software such as Pure Data and SuperCollider. They've been touring around in Europe and China.

Get busy... ...(working on what matters). Life is too short for 'pretending' to be busy.
Focus on the challenges that continue to stretch you.
Make good art.
Prioritise your priorities.
Get narrow.
Do what matters the most every day.

The weekend following the Mural Festival, I went back to Riverfront Park to take pictures of the completed mural cubes and panels. Since it was a nice day, there were people out boating and (I'm guessing) picnicking.
If you want to bring amazing people, clients, dream jobs into your life, you need to be irresistible to those kinds of people.
.
You need to possess something that few others do. Be a great fit to those people.
.
Make it a no-brainer.
.
Think about how to be as close to a perfect fit for your DREAM people as you can be.
.
Think about what they look for, and what they would LOVE.
.
Then all you need to do is make them aware you exist (and maybe a little nudge towards a SALE).
.
This takes creativity and work, but you CAN do it.

It was an evening when I sit to write something down. Suddenly, I noticed this nice colour of sunset. It took me a while to set up my equipment but I managed to do it before complete sunset

I decided to check out a building that I go past on a frequent basis, but have never actually stopped at.
I don't known when or why the business closed down, and I also don't remember when the murals were painted.
If Sundays are for rambling, then Tuesdays are for meandering.
I hunted down another one of the BCVB sponsored murals, and wound up taking pictures of the old gas station and (mostly vacant) shopping center that are adjacent to it. Side note: I once applied for a job at the vet clinic that used to be at the shopping center.
Sadly, I didn't notice the historical plaque on the gas station building until I was going through them on the computer, so now I have to go back and see what it says. There is another mural nearby that I want to get pictures of, so I can do both of them in one trip.

Founded in 1983, The Art Studio, Inc, is one of the driving forces of the arts scene here in Beaumont. In addition to hosting exhibits or works from (mostly) local and regional artists, they offer classes, do community outreach, and rent affordable studio spaces to artists.
They were getting a fresh mural painted during the 2024 Mural Festival, so I decided to get out and get some photos before the old mural was painted over.

Not taking risks is the new risk, in this modern, changing world.⠀
.⠀
Taking informed and courageous risks will ensure your security and momentum.⠀
.⠀
Nothing is as it was.⠀
.⠀
We must instead commit to becoming remarkable, and to emerge from obscurity.⠀
.⠀
And this requires that you confront your fears, and move into your discomforts.⠀
.⠀
Yeah, it's scary.⠀
.⠀
But standing still is dangerous.⠀
.⠀
Promote yourself with persistence. Embrace new technologies with awareness. Confront the things that scare and challenge you.⠀
.⠀
You already know what a lot of those things are.⠀
.⠀
Commit to rapid self-growth and discovery.⠀
.⠀
Aim to be extraordinary in all areas.⠀
.⠀
Allow yourself to fail continually.⠀

Take the right risks, and you will be safe.⠀

Lily and I visited one of the new murals that were painted during the recent VCB Mural Festival on our walk today.
Also, Spring has sprung. The wildflowers (and "feral" flowers in vacant lots) are starting to bloom.
