I did not make a typo nor did I magically transport myself back to 2004. Remembering Never, one of South Florida's most prolific and important hardcore bands have reunited. Even though the only original member is Pete Kowalksy, you wouldn't know it. Just like with Shai Hulud, the band plays together well, has a tight stage show, and they "get it" about what they're about and what they're doing. Remembering Never's set at The Talent Farm was perhaps an hour long and they played most of their known material. It was brutal, heavy, (slightly) dangerous, cantankerous, and awesome. I would say they reminded me of the old RN I saw at Spanky's, Ray's, Revolution, or any other venue down here but it was not; the band overall is more relaxed although still very much in-your-face, which does make their sets that much more enjoyable. Pete hardly had to sing any choruses, or for that matter, much of any songs, we all knew the words already. Between stage diving, some serious moshing, bum rushing the stage, and a room packed full of people, I'm surprised my gear made it out in one piece.

On March 18, 2011, Portland Trail Blazer Marcus Camby & his daughter helped Boys & Girls Club members plant 25 trees at a Friends of Trees event along the I-205 Multi-Use Path in the Lents neighborhood. The planting was part of the Blazers' Make It Better campaign and part of Friends of Trees' three-year partnership to green the path with ODOT, Metro, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, and more than a dozen other groups. I've been thinking (dangerous I know)...and I just don't spend enough time getting myself "prettied" up these days. I wear makeup like once a year. I rarely do my hair. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal. Well, I decided that's ok...but I'm going to spend more time making myself feel nice and pretty! So yesterday I dyed my hair. Today I straightened it. And *gasp* I put on some make up. Just to wear around the house. But god damn it, I felt good lounging around today!!!

A strategic battery protecting the approaches to Kirkwall Bay from naval attack. The battery was initially armed in 1940 with a single 4.7-inch Quick Firing (QF) gun before being upgraded in 1941 to two 6-inch Breech Loading (BL) Mk. VII guns removed from HMS Iron Duke. The battery has a number of associated structures still remaining; two searchlight emplacements, a magazine, air raid shelter, crew shelter, and the two-storey Battery Observation Post (BOP). There are also two engine houses for power generation, and a range of concrete bases for domestic structures. There is also evidence that the cottage on site was used, likely to accommodation Officers of the battery.
Colocated with the battery are two other structures, one which appears to be an Extended Defence Officers (EXDO) post and the other a large observation post.
The site is a designated scheduled monument. The citation reads:
"This monument is of national importance because it has an inherent potential to make a significant addition to our understanding of the past, specifically, the network of defences constructed in the Second World War to defend the key strategic harbour of Kirkwall. This is a well-preserved example of a coastal battery, showing a wide range of remains of this site type. Its significance is enhanced by the rare survival of features such as the wooden fittings and internal decoration. The monument offers considerable potential to study the relationship between the various elements of the site, and to enhance our understanding both of the Kirkwall defences and the wider defences in place around Orkney and beyond. These monumental concrete structures are a tangible and powerful reminder of one of the defining events of the 20th century. If this monument was to be lost or damaged, it would significantly affect our ability to understand the nature and scale of the efforts made to defend Britain against enemy naval threats in the Second World War and diminish the association between Orcadians today and those who lived and served in Orkney during the war."
Make An Impression is an art exhibition that showcases artwork created by high school art students in Hendricks County. The show is juried by professional artists and special guest judges, and winners are awarded scholarships. Students gain the chance for professional development and networking by having the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a professionally curated show.
