I am giving my old dolly's a make-over. This poor girl was in a box for a long time but not anymore! I am still waiting for the Licca body to arrive...Blue (formaly known as Nova) is also getting one :-)
Does anyone know a nice name for this girl?
Linda and I decided to make the short flight to Bermuda for our babymoon! During our stay at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, we ventured out to multiple beaches with pink sands (Sinky Bay, Clearwater, Elbow and Horseshoe Bay) and rented a Twizy to visit tourist attractions like St. George's, Unfinished Church, Fort St. Catherine, Crystal Caves and Royal Naval Dockyard. We also tried multiple preparations of Wahoo fish, had a couple pints of Rum Swizzle and capped off the babymoon with a lobster boil and a live cooking demo with Chef Marcus Samuelsson!
Tonight we celebrated our oldest daughter's birthday. A mom couldn't be prouder. How blessed we are.
Couldn't make it to our Vintage Dinner Series? Missed our Vintage Drinks extravaganza? Our Zagat Presents series recently continued in Keens Steakhouse circa-1885 as we once again brought in the legendary cocktail historians and educators Dale DeGroff, Steve Olson, Doug Frost, Andy Seymour and David Wondrich of B.A.R. (Beverage Alcohol Resource, the nation's premier training program in spirits and mixology) for two hours of tippling time travel. New old drinks were prepared by the masters of the art while guests nibbled on classic snacks. In case you missed the first Vintage Drinks event, the effervescent Blue Blazer made a return appearance.

"Zünd dein Herz an, lass es brennen, uns kann nichts vom Leben trennen. Wir werden immer nen Moment verpassen, hör nie auf damit, den Himmel anzufassen. Komm, renn der Sonne entgegen, geh nicht in die Knie, was spricht dagegen? Der Morgen stirbt nie.
Zünd dein Leben an, make love work! Hör nie auf anzufangen, setz den Raum in Flammen! " [Auletta - Make love work]

We went to the Wild Animal Sanctuary today with the Denver Digital Meet Up Group. I was reluctant to go after what happened in Ohio, but after being there for about 10 minutes; realized I was in a very special place.
The sanctuary is clean and spacious, the animals are relaxed and happy, and the staff and volunteers seem to really care about their welfare. As sad as it is that places like this have to exist, and to see these animals in captivity, this is their best option. They were born in captivity, kept as pets or exploited and are too reliant on people now. They can never be released into the wild.
The famous Bolivian Circus Lions live here. It was a rescue of epic proportions that spanned international borders, countless government agencies and faced severe financial challenges. Bob Barker is probably the most famous benefactor, but there were many many more who made the rescue possible.
The lions needed to be transported out of Bolivia quickly because there were some concerns about their safety. Apparently the circus owners were not happy with the seizure of their livelihood. They were not healthy enough to make the road trip, so they had to take a chartered plane. They were moving from a sweltering summer climate to a Colorado winter, so they needed time to acclimate. The sanctuary decided that they needed and deserved a climate-controlled biosphere with huge windows to let in as much Colorado Sun as possible.
This biodome was not cheap, by the time the financing was figured out, and the materials were brought in they had 7 days to build before the Lions arrived. And they did it. These Lions now live in a 15,000 sq ft home with 80 acres to roam.

Waiting lists for child care are growing nation wide, but federal support for child care is declining.
Tell Congress: Increase child care support for struggling families.
