time away from ludicrous events that surround our life.

Rolleiflex 2.8F,

80mm Xenotar taking lens with Rolleinar no 2,

Bergger BRF-400 film, ISO 400 (out of date),

Developed in Rodinal 1+25 for 7.5 mins at 20C,

Scanned at 3200dpi using Epson F-3200 scanner,

Processed in CS3

I recently acquired a, quite rare, Rollinear no2 close-up accessory for my Rolleiflex 2.8F twin lens reflex camera. The Rolleinar comprises two auxillary lenses. One lens fits over the main taking lens of the camera and allows closer focusing. A second lens, with a prism, fits over the camera's viewing lens and allows you to focus correctly and compensates for parallax.

Normally, the closest focusing distance of the 80mm Xenotar taking lens is about 1m. With the Rolleinar no2 attached, it will focus in the range 33cm to 50cm. You can also get a weaker Rolleinar no1 or a stronger Rolleinar no3. Using a Rolleinar drastically reduces DOF.

This picture is from my first roll using the Rolleinar no2.

To help young people create interactive art, Pataphysical Studios taught a workshop on how to make your own ‘ art wonderbox.’ Our goal was to help kids create a cool experience with lights, motion and sounds, using simple electronic parts.

To that end, we invited 12 kids (ages 8 to 12) and their parents to this free workshop at the Mill Valley Library:

pataphysics.us/make-your-own-wonderbox/

This two-hour workshop took place on Saturday, October 17 at 2pm. In the course of two hours, we guided students through these tasks:

Instructors for this workshop were Fabrice Florin, Jean Bolte and Natalie Frederick, with support from Antonia Souza and Freddy Hahne. They are all members of Pataphysical Studios, the art collective behind the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine’, our poetic oracle.

Come visit the exhibit this month! We’re open every Saturday and Sunday in October, from 1 to 5pm, in the downstairs conference room of the Mill Valley Library.

Special thanks to the Mill Valley Library and the Friends of the Library for making these workshops possible.

Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.

Here is a photo of the first completed production version of the Echophon. Note the silver faceplate- no longer a prototype. It looks like this will be the next Make Noise module released. We'll update our site when we have stock.

Wiksten Tova Dress made in pima cotton. Red is a popular color choice for this! I'd gotten my fabric before the pattern even arrived, but only this week had a chance to do some sewing for myself.

Happy New Year! Here's to hoping for a few more Wiksten patterns in 2011. =)

I scored this handmade dress at the Sweat Swap. I love the color, full skirt, and defined waist, but the high neckline and gathered chest look dowdy on my frame. I’ve tried a few different styling tricks to make it work. My favorite is to accessorize the dress with a scarf, worn cowboy style.

Scarf, thrifted. Cardigan, Rodarte for Target. Belt, Forever 21. Dress, handmade and swapped. Tights, Stocking Diva. Boots, White Mountain. Earrings Panagea.

Is it possible to make the Kingston Bridge look good, rather than appear the ugly relation of the other bridges to span the Clyde? Though an optimist this was a case I thought lost until capturing this whilst running down river this spring, one rare occasion when I ran in the evening, allowed for by the longer daylight hours.

The fading light blesses us to be left only with the bridge's silhouette, brushed with a layer of lit cloud, while it fades reaching up river towards my stance on the Tradeston ('Squiggly') Bridge.

The Kingston Bridge structure is huge and slices cruelly through the city. Seeing it reduced as here presents a more delicate perspective, especially being able to pick out the small lamps along the motorway that crosses it.

Though I'll never adore this landmark, the lesser light it's cast in here is a better one so far as I'm concerned. Pleased to have caught this and to feel happier allowing the bridge to continue its utilitarian purpose.

The Hat Makes the Man by Damien Hirst (2004-2007), Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

"Based on a 1920 collage of the same name by Surrealist artist Max Ernst. Ernst’s work is comprised of cut-out images of hats absurdly reassembled in stacks with intentionally phallic-like supports. It is thought to have been inspired by Sigmund Freud’s book The Joke and Its Relation to the Unconscious (1905), in which Freud describes the hat as a symbol of repressed male desire. Hirst renders Ernst’s work in three dimensions, using bronze casts of wooden pallets as supports and thereby introducing the idea of sculptural collage or assemblage."

These make me long for the cool, crisp, refreshing nip of fall. Here in SE Louisiana that's not for another month - month 1/2 to come. While doing these, I at least forgot about the heat and humidity for a little while......

· MAKE WAY ·

I’ve run out of wall space. I hung new curtain rods (at the proper distance from the windows) and added valances and had to move all the art that used to hang between the windows and the ceiling.

Thankfully, I have an entire office to rehome the art castoffs from my house. I brought my Bogosian collage of the San Diego waterfront to hang in my office. It’s actually a better place since I acquired that piece while in San Diego for work.

Blazer, vintage. Sweater, VOE (thrifted vintage). Dress, Floerns. Boots, Fergie. Bag, Pom Pom London.

Úlfur practicing his fierce look ... but it's not working... too well. You see... they all know he's such a sweet guy that he's just kidding ;) ... well... until he wants to make a point... then they better get out of the way!!
