Travelling from Nottingham one hot Friday in July 1984 I was delighted to find 45 136 waiting in platform 1 on a rake of Mk 1s with a 15:45 additional to St Pancras. A most welcome change from the expected HST - guess where I was sitting ?

A real Gem of a photo from Derek Chaplin with gratitude to the Chaplin family. A London Underground scrap train running west from London to Swansea at St Mellons east of Cardiff on the mainline. The steam loco is a GWR Grange class most probably 6821 Leaton Grange. LU sources tell me the train left Ruislip on 16/8/60 to Birds of Morriston for scrap. The four motor cars (3457, 3459, 3467, 3478) are all 1923 Cammell Laird and the three trailers at the back (7332, 7336, 7347) are all 1923 Birmingham-built. The car numbers may not be in the order of the photo, of course, but these are they. They are all ex-Central Line service.
Great excuse now for modellers to reproduce this train for BR western 1960 era layouts. First one to do so send me a photograph.
Due to recent unauthorized publication of my images in a magazine. newspaper and two published books without payment I have to now make this statement. I keep attending online Railway Soc events where speakers brazenly show my images without acknowledgement. Hence I have been forced to add a copyright sign in the corner.
