I went for a walk with my 50D and Gypsy (GPSr) after work today. Bellevue is really beautiful. I am not sure why but I keep noticing mailboxes everywhere I go in Washington.

The kids have asked about mailboxes for a few years now. I finally picked some up from the dollar-spot at Target & decorated them this year.

Now I just need a few creative ideas for filling them!

Mailbox Again

Nadat Troistoques me gezegd had dat dit een leuk idee was voor een verzameling ben ik de uitdaging aangegaan en verzamel nu foto's van brievenbussen, niet zijnde standaardgleuven of standaardbakken, en ook tuincentra-modellen vallen erbuiten, er moet wel iets bijzonders mee zijn.

Mijn zus Berendina zei dat brievenbussen steeds overbodiger worden. Dat zette mij aan het denken en inderdaad, brevenbussen zijn straks alleen nog nodig voor vreugde en leed. Vreugde bij verjaardagen , jubilea en vakanties van verre vrienden, als er kaarten voor felicitaties en uitnodgingen in liggen, en leed bij belastingaanslagen, rekeningen en, minder zakelijk, helaas ook overlijdensberichten.

De brievenbus wordt steeds meer een vreugde- en leed-doos, velen hebben zelfs voor kranten en reclame een aparte doos.

Zo krijgt deze verzameling toch nog een hogere (of diepere) betekenis. Dank, Ineke!

OK, I'm sure when you look at this you see a couple of tired, old, mailboxes. When I look at it, I see a brand-spanking-new mailbox post! After sixteen years of being in the ground, the day before yesterday our mailbox fell over in our mail carrier's hands. I spent a couple of hours yesterday bustin' out concrete, and today I built my very first post. Hopefully, by the time this one needs to be replaced, I'll be looooong gone. ;-)
