mailboxes shouldn't be empty at Christmas time....or did I already take out the mail before I pointed the Holga at it?
This is a stained-poplar mailbox for my sister. Based more or less on the design of the one they're replacing. The finish is several coats of Spaarrr Vaarrrrnish, like the pirates use. The hinges are "antique steel" from Lee Valley Tools -- (Link)
Owens mailbox, which were affixed to poles and streetlamps, on display at the National Postal Museum in Washington, DC. These were named after David Owens, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin postmaster, and last manufactured in the 1950s. There are still a few in use across the country. I wonder if there are any in the DC area?
The way to Grand Falls goes through Luepp Road, which was picturesque and almost as interesting to me as the Falls themselves. There were quite a few of these little mailbox clusters along the way and this scene above spoke to me so much, I actually turned around and went back a few miles to make sure I captured it before returning to my trip to the Falls.
There was just something about the way the mailboxes were all huddled together, the dirt road runs off for miles and in the far distance you can actually see the houses these boxes belong to. The sky was so great this day…the clouds perfection.
I’ve lived in Arizona my entire 35+ years of existence yet still I have so much to see and discover…Luepp Road is a stretch of country I’ve never seen before but am so grateful I got the chance.
Several times this weekend I turned down a road or path or into somewhere I had a feeling I should go. Found some interesting things to see. I felt compelled to turn in a driveway yesterday, and behold this was the mailbox. Pretty cool.
Our mailbox is rusted and falling apart. My mother-in-law has given us a new one many years ago. My husband isn't very good with construction--haha--he's a scientist OR just an absent-minded professor. :) I just noticed: this photo was taken on my sister's 60th (yes, 60th) birthday. :)

I just wanted a picture of the reflections of the traffic light and the street lights on the rain-soaked pavement. Very atmospheric. Like Eddie Rabbit sang, "Well I love a rainy night/It's such a beautiful sight/I love to feel the rain/On my face/To taste the rain on my lips/In the moonlight shadow." And, like K-Rose DJ Mary Beth Maybell said (paraphrasing from memory, since I don't feel like waiting half an hour for the song to come up in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas): "I love a rainy night, it's perfect for disposing of bodies and washing away evidence."
Guess Where in Montreal? Guess the intersection, not just the street. ANSWER: Sainte Catherine's and Lambert-Closse, guessed by Chris DeWolf.
