Well I dont live in the deep country, where cowboys still cross your ways, but I do live in texas and you do see horses and a lot of cattle around :)
This mailbox belongs to a horse ranch.. totally awesome :)
If you want to join send me a letter...okay fine..email is enough ;)) !!
This mailbox looks like I feel.
It started with an abscessed tooth. I was on an antibiotic and pain killer for several days until I had a root canal. There is a reason people compare bad experiences to getting a root canal. I was in the chair for three hours and couldn't close my mouth. They gave me a bite box but I was still miserable. I don't want to go through that again.
In the meantime, it rained for over three days. The little creek beside our house stayed in its banks but, because we live at the foot of the mountain, all the wet weather springs above us ran down into our yard. It looked like a swimming pool. Roads were flooded and impassable. Several county schools in southwestern Virginia and northeastern Tennessee were closed because the buses couldn't get to the houses. The rivers crested on Thursday, which was the day it snowed.
I left work early because Amanda told me it was snowing heavily at our house and sticking to the ground where it wasn't flooded. Another motorist and I had to move a small tree out of the road in order to get through. We got 7" of snow in less than four hours. Most of it stuck to the trees and wires. We were without power for nearly twelve hours. Our yard is littered with tree limbs. Whole trees are down in our neighborhood, uprooted from the weight of the snow.
I'm just waiting for the swarm of locusts . . .

Time for another mailbox. I found this one in Dwyer Hill Rd. It actually had caught my eye when cycling by it with the group last week and decided to head back to snap a few shots. I like the combination of orange, green and the black semi-circle. The rust is an added bonus!
Better for the eye and soul in the light box

Mailboxes have always been intriguing to me...all the good news, bad news that have flowed through this one box capture my imagination but the saddest would be no news. It is always a pleasure to walk the 300 yards to the mailbox with coffee in hand to get the paper....which is my favorite thing to do when I visit.

I helped a friend on a location portrait session this weekend and stopped just before arriving at the family's house to take a few photos of random things. I liked how these country mailboxes looked. I decided I would try again at an HDR using Photomatix and this is the result. I still can't get one that really wows me. But it's OK. I may post the original later as I can't decide which I like better. Anyhoooooooooo, I hope you are having a great evening! :)
