This was taken from a 35 minute timelapse shot of Bodie Island lighthouse (on 7-7-13). The star trail adds an eerie vertigo effect. I set the top of the lighthouse on the North Star (Polaris). The 85 still images were edited in Lightroom and assembled in Photoshop by lightening layers.

This is my first night using the magic lantern firmware with the camera. The intervalometer alone is worth installing it. It's great setting the camera up, and not having to sit in the cold engaging the shutter every 2 minutes or so. (Clearly not the colors from the camera :D)

I happened to spot the moon just before sunrise and tried this HDR. It's a bit noisy but better than I've managed before for a moon that's not full.

First Aurora Borealis during the stay in Kiruna, Sweden.

Unfortunately, the aurora activity was pretty low (Kp-index around 1.6), but it was sufficient to capture the "trace" of the northern light.

Very new and tentative urban scape in Ginza, luxury shopping area in Tokyo, Japan.

Exterior view of this glass building could not be seen from a distance because of the existence of another building in front of it. As another building was demolished completely for the reconstruction, everybody at the crossroad of Ginza is surprised at the emergence of such an amazing building illuminated beautifully at night.

Location: "Maison HERMÈS" designed by Renzo Piano who called the building “Magic Lantern”.

Check out this photo I captured of the Milky Way over Frosty Drew Observatory on Tuesday morning, May 7, 2019. After a rather long bout of cloudy nights in New England, the weather cut us a break on a night with practically no Moon. A fellow astro geek met up with me at the observatory and we chased down galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, dark nebulae, and the morning planets until pre-dawn.

"Palladian" normally refers to buildings in a style inspired by Palladio's own work;

Palladio's work was strongly based on the symmetry, perspective and values of the formal classical temple architecture of the Ancient Greeks and Romans

Here's a shot I snapped of the Messier 22 Globular Star Cluster last night (June 24, 2015) at Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA. M22 is found in the constellation Sagittarius. Residing at only 10,600 light years distant, M22 is one of the closer globular clusters to Earth. Messier 22 one of the best summer time globular clusters visible in the northern hemisphere.

King's College was the first university in Aberdeen, the third in Scotland and the fifth in the British Isles. In 1495, William Elphinstone, the relatively newly appointed Bishop of Aberdeen, petitioned Pope Alexander VI on behalf of King James IV to create the facility to cure the ignorance he had witnessed within his parish and in the north generally. A papal bull was issued in February 1495 (1491 in the calendar of the day) founding the university; a royal charter later that year recognised Aberdeen's status as equal to that of Scotland's two existing universities at Glasgow and St Andrews. As a former professor at the University of Paris, Elphinstone modelled the university very much on the continental European tradition. Hector Boece, a fellow professor at Paris, was awarded the status of first principal of the new institution.

It would not be until 1509, with the issuance of a charter by Elphinstone, that university life at King's truly began. Construction of the chapel began in 1498; it was consecrated in 1509 and dedicated to St Mary. By 1514, the university had some forty-two members in the form of both staff and students.[1]

What a way to end the year. Aurora Borealis @ Aberdeen South breakwaters. 31/12/2015.

Friday night's 78% waning gibbous Moon blazed brightly over the Southern New England clear skies. As visitors strolled into the observatory, bright moonlight lit up the room and the minds of all who caught a view in the telescope. When the room quieted down, I hooked up the camera and captured this photo.

Believe it or not, it was pretty dark and I could barely see anything. The light on the right (and on the hill) was the remain of the sunset which I could barely see.
