Natural light. No retouching.
It is a little hard to see the rain. Actually, it is a person standing off to the side with a garden hose. Sorry to ruin the magic. Shot with a Leaf Aptus 17 medium format digital back on a Mamiya 645.
I often have an image of a shot that I can see in my head, but am unable to successfully capture. This is the story of "The One That Got Away". May 23, 2009. Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market. Flickr Friend impromptu photowalk. Lots to see and do.
The kid - All-boy, just over 2 yrs-old.
The Dog - 10 month old Great Dane named, Myles.
All I wanted was a photo of the boy and the dog together. There was a pretty big crowd and lots of distractions for Myles who checked out each offered hand and freely accepted being petted. The looks of wonder, of joy and of amazement spread over the kid's face. My 57 year-old knees didn't help much . I can't stay in a squat too long if you expect me to stand up again. I'm down in a squat, I'm focussed and I am ready to shoot.
I did not capture the magic shot. All I got was this wonderful set of the boy's expression of joy about being near a dog the size of a pony. Then again, maybe I did get what I wanted....the look of satisfaction.

I was the last person in this line of friends walking home from a party when I saw the kodak moment unfolding, jumped off the sidewalk onto the street, and managed to snap this one magic shot :-)
This is how I feel right now, even though I am still working the graveyard shift. When I got off from work this morning, like the other day, I decided to hit up a few of my favorite areas near my home on the Eastside. The Eastside is the area of communities east of Seattle in the Cascade foothills. I was driving home on a rural road just west of Snoqualmie Falls when I happened upon a little farm with Sunflowers. As I grabbed my gear and started walking towards the field of Sunflowers, my heart started to race. I had just stumbled upon a "Photographer's Paradise" in the Cascade Foothills of Western Washington not even 5 miles from where I live! This was not just a little farm with some Sunflowers. This was a field about 2 to 3 acres in size, LOADED with rows of different flower varieties. Sunflowers, Gladiolas, Cosmos, some flowers I don't know the name of, and my favorite, Dahlias.
I spent nearly an hour and a half walking up and down the rows of flowers, hungrily snapping photos of the Gorgeousity and the Bees flying all around. I felt I was in Paradise.... no wait.... Paradise is on Mt Rainier(which is where I am staying this Sunday and Monday)....Okay it was a different type of Paradise! I feel I am so blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet and have all these wonderful places to take photos.
This photo is for all of my Flickr friends, for I am also truly blessed to have you as friends. Your comments and photos provide me with the inspiration to improve my technique, and to share what is beautiful around me.
Yes this is another SOOC. The only post processing here was a little added contrast, slight decrease in the brightness, and cropped in Photoshop to preserve the quality.
Thank you for visiting my photo stream and taking the time to share your comments, they are deeply appreciated.
Port Kembla Magic.
Shot this one last week down on the docks at Port Kembla.
This shot is pretty much straight out of the camera, just a quick crop and a little sharpening. Enjoy
Absolute magic shot! Only noticed the pigeon when I downloaded the pic!

Today was a very interesting day at the Disneyland resort indeed. It started on a sour note when we figured out the half marathon was today, and it took an extra hour to get to the park due to crazy traffic and what-not. Fortunately the day turned around and some really great things happened.
I actually ended up being stopped and hugged mid-stride while walking through Princess Fantasy Faire. One of the old Drawn to the Magic cast members recognized us from afar and greeted both me and my Dad. And you have to understand, we are just as much Drawn to the Magic fans as we are Aladdin a Musical Spectacular fans, which is saying a lot. Hence me going into my archives to find any decent Drawn to the Magic shot I have. Unfortunately I had only barely got into photography when the show was cancelled, so I don’t actually have a shot of her but my dad does (check out his picture > flic.kr/p/8WP22v ). Anyways, it meant so much that she still remembered us and took the time to say hello to us :)
But today I was also recognized for the first time as being “Canhasal”. A lady had connected the dots from a few tweets by one of the Aladdins, and took a wild guess and asked me if I was Canhasal. It’s great to know people actually appreciate the photos I take and would take the time to tell me personally :)
Taken at Aladdin a Musical Spectacular during the 2:20 performance on 9/4/2011.

Yes, this is a magic shot I took a few days ago at my brother's house...
Those wonderful 3 seconds that you're photographing the flowers and then suddendly a little ladybug flew over them.
Sooo cute!
It has been tough to watch everyone else watch the O'neil Coldwater Classic while I worked a mere quarter mile away but Tuesday morning came and it just happened to be a clear warm day with perfect waves to finish the contest in. I set up my tripod early along the railing and waited for the light and waves to combine for a magic shot. I think the better angle would have been from a boat. The strong backlight made it tough for the auto-focus. So I turned it off and took what I could get which proved to be good on the outside but soft as they came closer to the inside. My depth of field was too shallow and alot of shots were less than ideal. Still I manged a few keepers and even a few I would print. Next time I will have to negotiate a ride on the O'Neil Catamaran.
