To create colorful geology such as that found at Cedar Breaks National Monument, magic is required.
This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera with a Carl Zeiss S-Planar 1:5.6 f=120mm lens and Kowa L39•3C(UV) ø67 filter using Kodak Portra 400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
Magic exists everywhere. We only need to keep our senses open and our awareness intact in order to find it. In my on-going process of healing, these are the things that sustain me... the warm summer breeze in my hair, insects swarming above me in a shaft of light, the dance of wind and light upon the waters of the Seine.... happy Saturday, dear friends. Just adding this note for those interested in the techie stuff; this was taken on my Nikon F4, on 400asa film
I am such an impulsive/intuitive photographer and after all the years, I do things by 'feel', like driving a car, you know what I mean, but I'll try. I'd say f 4.5, 1/30 of second. Of course on a tripod and with cable release. I was way behind the crowd on a small hill, with a long lens probably between 200/250.
The result also depends on the film and sensitivity.
Photographic film is a sheet of plastic (cellulose acetate) coated with an emulsion containing light-sensitive silver halide salts (bonded by gelatine) with variable crystal sizes that determine the sensitivity and resolution of the film.
Colour film uses at least 3 layers, I now use film with 4.
Dyes added to the silver salts make the crystals sensitive to different colours. During development, the silver salts are converted to metallic silver, as with black and white film. The by-products of this reaction form coloured dyes. The silver is converted back to silver salts in the bleach step of development. It is removed from the film in the fix step.

PS This model was supposed to be the first part of a much larger spaceship. My idea was to show how advanced technology transforms into new reality, and artificial creations become new nature. I used the citation of the Clarke's third law to refer to the hypothesis that humanity cannot find traces of activity of advanced extraterrestrial civilizations because they are indistinguishable from natural cosmic phenomena. I also wanted to connect this with an ufological theory that aliens were visiting Earth in the past and this was reflected in mythology.
Shot this for a project I'm doing. Subject was "Breakfast". It just ain't breakfast without a proper brew. I love a Yorkshire tea. It's magic! (Other brands of tea are available, apparently)

We had just exited from Small World and the sky was absolutely on fire! Each of the “small pillows” of cloud was ringed with an incredibly bright and saturated red / orange. The intensity was something I have not often seen. I knew we were “missing” the peak of the show going off in the sky, so I hurried my group over to the courtyard behind the castle hoping to catch the spectacle before it was completely gone.
As we arrived, standing with my back to the carousel the lights in and on the castle came to life - timing sometimes is everything.
This image is one of the very few times I’ve actually felt I needed to tone down the intensity and color in order for the shot to be believed! The shadow areas were opened a bit and the sky was actually desaturated.
In hindsight I think it’s good I was on Small World where I couldn’t see the show happening in the sky from start to finish. I think I would have been literally running from place-to-place to try and capture more of it.

A witch is a person, often a woman, who practices witchcraft. A man that practices witchcraft is often called a warlock. The stereotypical witches are commonly portrayed as wicked old women who have wrinkled skin and pointy hats. They wear clothes that are black or purple. They also have warts on their noses and sometimes long claw-like fingernails. Witches have often been seen outside accepted cultures and faith. People often made them feel unwanted in their societies.
Een heks, ook wel kol of toverkol genoemd, is een persoon, meestal een vrouw, aan wie in vroeger tijden kennis en kunde werd toegedicht die een magisch karakter had, ook wel hekserij genoemd. The last weekend of August 2008 took place the yearly World Statues Festival (Living Statues Festival) in the city centre of Arnhem (Netherlands) with more then 250 participants and over 300.000 visitors.
The 5th anniversary of World Statues is on the 29th and 30th of August 2009.
The term living statue refers to a mime artist who poses like a statue or mannequin, usually with realistic statue-like makeup, sometimes for hours at a time.
This is an art that requires a great deal of patience and physical stamina.
