Making pasta at home is quick and easy, once you start you’ll never go back to the dry stuff in a box from the grocery store.
The tandem bike design was hand piped onto this four tier wedding cake and the design was taken off the wedding invitation. Pink and yellow swirl piping and fresh flowers finish this lovely cake.
This awesome baby shower cake was a replica of a Channel diaper bag. There are lots of little details in this cake, all hand made and hand painted.
I used one of the new Betty Crocker gluten free cake mixes to prepare Eleanore's Birthday cupcakes. I used food coloring to give them the rainbow effect, and it turned out so pretty. I made a cookies n cream buttercream frosting from scratch, using gluten free "oreos", earth balance, and powdered sugar made in our vita mix. In the end, they were the ultimate birthday cupcake, she wasn't dissapointed.
The frying pan, lizard, lantern and braid were all hand made out of fondant for this Tangled themed party.
When you grow you own strawberries they’re so much better than what you get at the store, you don’t want to overpower them with too much sugar. I make homemade shortcake with real butter, whole grain flour, crystallized ginger and just a small amount of sugar. This lets the sweetness and flavor of homegrown sun ripened strawberries be the star of the meal. The shortcakes are cooked until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When cooled we crumble them in a bowl, top with strawberries macerated with maple syrup and a dash of vanilla. Then we top it all off with some raw milk.

It’s long been a tradition in my family to gather together on New Year’s Day to eat pork and sauerkraut. When I was young, my grandma was the cook and the entire family packed into her house, cousins, uncles, aunts to help eat the roasters full of kraut that she made. I never liked it growing up, usually I’d eat the tiniest bit of sauerkraut and stuff myself with the delicious dumplings that topped it. It was a meal that had to be eaten on New Year’s day to ensure that the coming year would be a prosperous one.

Minnie Mouse themed 2nd birthday cake with a little zebra print and the birthday girls name on stars. Baby blocks and fondant curls for accents.
Had these for supper. Yum. Chicken Wings are my favourites. I even made the BBQ Sauce that I put on them.

Sleeping Angels Shea Butter Handmade Natural Soap
I've enriched this bar with shea butter, sweet almond oil and vegetable glycerin for added moisture. The color reminds me of a beautiful pink opal. I tried hard to capture this in the pics, but no cigar.
This was a sample from Brambleberry. I had never heard of it and the name isn't up my opium alley. It's not bad and for some reason it reminds me of a Christmas scent. It might be because of the name? I really don't have the words to desribe this one, so allow me to steal the words out of Brambleberry's mouth:
"This glorious fragrance is fresh, flowery and green with notes of Rose, Muget, and Musk. Delicate and floral, it's a great addition to any soap line! One customer wrote in and said, "I just wanted to let you know that I used the Sleeping Angels FO in it and I love it! It smells great. Like a cross between a baby and a field of flowers."
So there it is :-)
This 3rd birthday party had two themes that we incorporated into one cake. The Hello Kitty topper was provided by the guest but the leopard print was hand painted onto a fondant background.
It is filled with homemade roast sweet potato paste (covered in crushed peanuts) and mung bean paste (black sesame seeds)
The tea is supposedly one of the top 10 Chinese teas in the world.

I made Blueberry Buckle for breakfast, it was always one of my faves as a girl. I used the recipe from Rustic Fruit Desserts: Crumbles, Buckles, Cobblers, Pandowdies, and More I used freshly ground white whole wheat flour, homegrown blueberries from the freezer, and added some crystallized ginger for extra goodness. Oh yeah, and I cut the sugar in half. Quite tasty!

The beautiful thing about this dish is that it can be made with whatever you have in the kitchen or whatever happens to be in your harvest basket that morning. In mid summer tomatoes, peppers and basil would be heaven; in spring asparagus, leeks and cheese are perfect. The possibilities are truly endless. Assemble them the night before letting them rest on the counter overnight or if you’re squeamish about food being warm put them in the fridge overnight (they’ll cook much better if you warm them on the counter for an hour before baking).

A four-part evolution of an apple pie, made from scratch. Didn't document the making of the pie crust dough, but it did take a lot of butter--nearly 2 sticks.
Lots going on with this cake. Zebra stripes, a bow, curls and stuff sticking out of the sides. It was a fun and different Sweet 16 cake.
Both footballs were made entirely of cake, covered in fondant. The name, crown and stars were made from gumpaste.
Large fondant letters were cut to cover the top of this boy's birthday cake, music notes around the side to match the colors.
Alice falling down the rabbit hole, the Queen of Hearts and the Chesire cat (he even had a tail on the back). The cake is all vanilla buttercream with fondant accents. The pocket watch and Alice's legs and dress were made from gumpaste. A Very Merry Un-birthday to you!
So today, sans microwave oven, I made a pot of soup for dinner.
Not that I'm totally dependent on having a microwave ... right? Right? And I happen to enjoy making soup anyhow.
This was a case of "use whatever might be on hand" and turned out to be boxed chicken broth, coarsely cut potatoes (skin ON, thank you ... carefully scrubbed), a can of chicken, a bit of frozen spinach, a splash of lemon juice, and some herbs (rosemary, dill weed, lemon thyme that I'd grown myself, and dried parsley).
It turned out quite well.

Cinnamon Sugar Cocoa Butter Handmade Natural Soap
This soap is made with cinnamon sugar fragrance oil. It smells just like cinnamon and sugar, but not too sweet. Too sweet = bad news in my aromaland. I've added tons and tons and tons of cocoa butter to the base of this bar. To top it off, I've enriched with shea butter, sweet almond oil and vegetable glycerin for more moisturizing goodness. It's a very rich bar of soap and will leave you feeling silky smooth.
This would definitely be a bar of soap that I'd wash my hair with too. I use almost all of my plain (meaning no added herbs and stuff) as shampoo bars. My method: Lather up a wash cloth really REALLY good and squeeze it out onto your hair. This is easier then trying to lather your hands and then transfer. Scrub it up and use the remainder for your body. Close your eyes for the hair part though - or ouch! Then rinse and you are all done. You've saved water, time and smell great too. Ah…
