When you grow you own strawberries they’re so much better than what you get at the store, you don’t want to overpower them with too much sugar. I make homemade shortcake with real butter, whole grain flour, crystallized ginger and just a small amount of sugar. This lets the sweetness and flavor of homegrown sun ripened strawberries be the star of the meal. The shortcakes are cooked until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When cooled we crumble them in a bowl, top with strawberries macerated with maple syrup and a dash of vanilla. Then we top it all off with some raw milk.

I think this is one of the most beautiful loaves I've ever baked, great oven spring. Can't wait to slice it up and slather it with butter.

It's What's For Dessert

The Bread Pudding isn't sweet, but the sauce is. I made the bread that is in this pudding. I also made the Caramel Sauce from Coconut Milk. I love it!

I grew up in a Colombia and the long, slow cooking of meat over fire was a part of almost every celebration. I grew to love the taste and always equated it with happiness and celebration.

I found this great recipe for Cauliflower Rice in My Rice Cooker Cookbook and I tweaked it to give it more flavour by putting in some chopped-up veggies. I also added some dried tomato that was infused with oil. This turned out good. Next time I'm going to add some stronger seasonings than they recommended in the recipe. All in all, this was quite tasty and a lower carb dish than regular rice.

I love roasted veggies cooked in the convection oven. They come out so crispy on the outside and tender inside.

I don't keep many cookies in the house. I made these a while ago, they are quite tasty!

I made maple pecan cinnamon rolls for breakfast for Mr Chiot's b-day. We used our own homemade maple syrup, organic raw pecans, and rolls made with freshly ground wheat flour. So tasty!

It's What's For Lunch

One thing I love is a big bowl of hardy Stew on a chilly day. I added some Marsala wine into this one. I'm going to have a piece of my Artisan Bread with this! The potatoes and squash in this Stew are from our garden.

We had this for dessert. I made it from scratch. I used Raw Cashews and made a lovely sweet cream out of them. The Cashew Cream is sweetened with fresh Medjool Dates, so yummy!

Ginger Pepper Citrus Musk Essential Oil Natural Soap

I've blended ginger, black pepper and an array of citrus essential oils including orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit to make up this essential oil delight. Those burgundy stripes you see are musk fragrance oil. The scent is wonderful together!

Here's a couple of things these essential oils have been said to help with:

Ginger oil is used in the treatment of fractures, rheumatism, arthritis, bruising, carbuncles, nausea, hangovers, travel and sea sickness, colds and flu, catarrh, congestion, coughs, sinusitis, sores on the skin, sore throat, diarrhea, colic, cramps, chills and fever.

Black Pepper is a warming oil can be used to great effect to help circulation and bruising and specifically to help with muscle tone, aching limbs and rheumatoid arthritis. It further helps to promote digestion, the colon as well as the kidneys.

Orange oil can be used effectively on the immune system, as well as for colds and flu and to eliminate toxins from the body.It is a good diuretic and is most useful in balancing water retention and obesity. Its lymphatic stimulant action further helps to balance water processes, detoxification, aiding the immune system and general well-being.

Lemon oil can be very beneficial to the circulatory system and aids with blood flow, reducing blood pressure and helping with nosebleeds. It can help bring down fever, helps relieve throat infections, bronchitis, asthma and flu. It boosts the immune system and cleanses the body, improves the functions of the digestive system, and it is helpful with constipation, dyspepsia and cellulite. Lemon oil soothes and relieves headaches and migraines and is helpful for rheumatism and arthritis. It is also used for clearing acne, cleaning greasy skin and hair, as well as removing dead skin cells, easing painful cold sores, mouth ulcers, herpes and insect bites.

Lime oil is useful to cool fevers associated with colds, sore throats and flu and aids the immune system while easing coughs, bronchitis and sinusitis, as well as helping asthma. Lime oil can stimulate and refresh a tired mind and helps with depression. It can be helpful for arthritis, rheumatism and poor circulation, as well as for obesity and cellulite and has an astringent and toning action to clear oily skin and acne, and also helps with herpes, insect bites and cuts.

Grapefruit has a high vitamin C content and is therefore valuable to the immune system. It helps protect against colds and flu, has a very positive effect on obesity and also has diuretic properties, helping to remove excess water from the body and is therefore also great for treating cellulite. It has an uplifting effect on the mood and helps with stress and depression. It is used with great success to combat muscle fatigue and stiffness while stimulating the lymphatic system and thereby clearing the body of toxins. It helps to clear congested oily skin and also assists with acne, while toning the skin and tissues. Grapefruit is used in hair care to promote hair growth.

Garden Harvest!

I had this at the Flying Star and it was so delicious I made it at home last evening. I made enough for tonight too, so glad I did! Here's the recipe if you're interested in creating this. I seared the asparagus in my cast iron frying pan until it was fork tender. www.familycookbookproject.com/recipe/3029534/garden-harve...

This was the "Treat Of The Day." I made the Root beer using my root beer tincture from Longevity Warehouse, and I made the fizzy water in my soda stream. I added the non-dairy Coconut Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and voila...It was quite tasty!

Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake

My Slow Food Creations.

One thing I have discovered about baking with Spelt Flour is that it's heavier than all purpose flour, so it isn't so great for baking things that are light like angel food cakes. But it's good for loaf cakes and bars. It's got a more nutty flavor than wheat flour and is easier to digest.

I really enjoyed this one, I like beans and Mexican food. This is meal number three from the Green Chef.

A wonderful blend of Lavender, Tea Tree, and Clove.

The beautiful thing about this dish is that it can be made with whatever you have in the kitchen or whatever happens to be in your harvest basket that morning. In mid summer tomatoes, peppers and basil would be heaven; in spring asparagus, leeks and cheese are perfect. The possibilities are truly endless. Assemble them the night before letting them rest on the counter overnight or if you’re squeamish about food being warm put them in the fridge overnight (they’ll cook much better if you warm them on the counter for an hour before baking).

I rarely make these, they are very sweet. I have frozen the lot and will only indulge on rare occasions. I do love Date Squares. I made these from scratch, my favourite way!

Got my Chef's hat on today and made Coconut Caramel Sauce and Apple Crisp from scratch! I love caramel, it's my favourite sweet. I'm going to enjoy a little of this later.

Well, it's later now and I had some...MMMMM!!!

very elegant, sober yet with character.. the two colors compliment eachother beautifully and the elasticised back makes for an easy fit.

As you can imagine we don't do regular normal burger toppings on our venison burgers (thanks to Mr Chiots great hunting skills this past year). Naturally we use homemade buns, which I bake up and keep in the freezer so we always have some on hand. The burgers are topped with: homemade roasted pear chutney, caramelized onions and local raw milk blue cheese. Our burgers are usually enjoyed with a few of our homegrown potatoes fried in coconut oil. It sure makes for a quick, simple, delicious and healthy meal! And you can't forget a Mexican Coke made with real sugar in a glass bottle.
