I got some brass shims from a hardware store--that and the electrical tape were the only things I had to buy. The shims are super thin pieces of brass that I could easily poke a hole in with a sewing pin, and cut with scissors to have it fit inside the box.

I should have put something into scale that. Its about 4 or 5 inches across. Homemade frozen pie dough, filled with Hero black cherry jam. Made for munchies after a swimming expedition.

Those of you who have Windows 10 can purchase a little preset that will make these tiny planets for $1.50 .. I have done that but I wanted to see just what the difference was in the homemade one and the preset one .... This is what I see... The one I made manually needs to be blended down at the bottom and I haven't learned just what to do about that line but I do know it can be done... The formula to make your own is available if you would like to have it... Just a fun thing to play with...

I don't have this year's beauty shot of our maple syrup, but the season is not over yet. In the meantime, here is a little taste. This season's syrup is amber in colour but delicate in flavour. The season started late, but the sap has been sweeter than usual, meaning we are getting a better yield. The commercial producers have already identified that this year there is a higher likelihood of sugar sand, a natural particulate that becomes sediment at the bottom of the jars. It is usually filtered out, if possible, but reoccurs quickly and easily if you reheat your stop to over 200°. So of you are cooking with maple syrup this season, it's something to be aware of. I can't get through the weekend without making something. Yesterday I made banana bread (using Mark Bittman's recipe, but adding pumpkin pie spice and chopped 60% chocolate). Tonight it's potato chips, flavored with olive oil, salt, rosemary, and some parmesan. I've never made chips before so we'll see how it goes!

This is a simple chocolate cupcake made from scratch with what was called a "marshmallow" frosting, but is really more like a merengue type frosting! The recipe I used made an obscene amount of frosting.....mmmmmm!!!!
