At first glance, this butterfly’s wings appear black with red spots. But under extreme macro magnification, an unexpected shape appears: a tiny heart hidden among the hindwing scales ❤️. It’s not an anatomical feature, but a visual pattern created by the alignment and pigmentation of the scales. Nature once again surprises us with its ability to hide art in the microscopic.

Sure they call this a Red Spotted Purple. And sure it's actually an Orange Spotted Blue in appearance. But we don't care. We love them anyway. I just wish I could meet that color blind person who named it.

This Pearly Crescentspot sat for me a couple moments on a leaf. I had my exposure settings wrong for the lighting, so had to work with the RAW image to get what you see here. I hope I've faithfully reproduced the actual colors, which were great.

Chrysanthemums grow in the garden, no one could have guessed that butterflies are not indifferent to the flower. There were dozens of them, or even more, just take my word for it. To capture at least one of them gave me pleasure, I don't know if I succeeded. But emotions were on top, well, very beautiful

Taken WILD, not in a park or backyard. Taken in wild Oregon in a heavy thicket of wild Roses.

Found this guy at approx 3600 ft elevation going into the Coast Range of Oregon. The lighting makes it look like I've sharpened the image but I haven't. The most interesting thing with this guy is the Translucent wings (outer 1/4th). You can see the flower coming through the upper right wing tip and green leaf on the bottom left wing.
