spider in the woods at pakenham not sure what type, it is quite a challenge with the poor light to get enough of the subject in focus
thanks for the info its a garden spider
A very handsome spider with attractive texture on the abdomen. There are 2 small horns at the anterior with a tapered abdomen, consistent with the description of genus Parawixia. The colour, however, does not match the P. dehaani I have seen, therefore species identification is inconclusive.
Length ~25mm. Pretty huge right?
This is a black widow in the pumpkin patch just outside my front door in Long Beach, CA. Because black widows only come out after sundown, this is taken with a flash. Taken in macro mode.
second focus stacked macro out of 3 images :D
I would have had more insect shots had the sleeping monkeys not screamed at me.. its a long story :P
These two spiders were having a battle near Gallery Stratford. Here are some highlights. WHOA! Amazing!
Taken with the Laowa 60 mm Super Macro on Pentax K-S2.
At first I thought it was a damselfly that got caught in the web of this Argiope versicolor. After looking closely I realized it's a phasmid or commonly known as the stick insect.
Phasmids are very cryptic and can be very difficult to detect visually. But putting a leg into the web of this female Araneid spells certain doom.
This araneid is resting on the stabilimentum woven into the center of its orb-web. The function - if there is one - of this silken structure is debated in the literature.
