Have you ever watched ants busy gathering juices of peony buds? I have.. For a couples of days actually, I have spent some time watching them fight over drops of juice and busily crawling all over my peony. Both days quite windy and it was a challenge to take macro shots, but I have managed to get a few good ones (I hope) despite constantly changing light and wind moving my subjects and them moving all the time...

1 to 1 with the female banded demoiselle.
A few more shots using my D5100 and Nikkor 105 micro. Thinking i might upgrade my D5100 soon to the D5300 as light weight back up to my D7100. Still my old D5100 isnt bad :-)
This mosquito after drinking pint of my blood, sat on the TV screen making herself at home, slowly excreting excess water from her meal...

A little visitor on my raspberry bushes..
Technique: I found this little solitary bee feeding on a Dandelion and cast my shadow over it to see if I could get its metabolism to tank. In cool weather (it was 15C) small solitary bees need the heat of the sun to keep them going. The bee flew to a leaf and I continued to shadow it, and after a minute of being motionless I moved in for a few photos. I couldn't get the angle I wanted for this portrait, so I picked the leaf and braced my hand on a fence post to help keep the scene steady and so I'd have some color in the background. It's a Mining Bee (Andrena), but not sure about the specific species.
Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 3x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

It's been nice and warm outside lately (well, relatively warm, since the temperatures have been fluctuating between +3 and -5oC) I have been more and more thinking about spring... I know we have a very long way still before us, but one can always dream, right?! ;D I was going through my pictures and happened upon this set of ladybug ones that I shot back in March.. Cute little things - ladybugs. Always bring in my mind memories of warm days full of sunshine and happiness... Happy Monday guys!
