Unfortunately I was using my macro lens today so the curious sea lions chewing my flippers and nuzzling my camera were more of a nuisance than a photo op. These three shots are of the same young individual. I'm really happy with the detail of the iris that the macro captured!

Если их спугнуть, они не сразу улетают, а сначала зависают в воздухе над цветком. Это мухи из семейства журчалок (лат. Syrphidae). Неопытному наблюдателю бывает трудно отличить журчалок от пчел и ос, настолько их расцветка и движения в совершенстве имитируют жалящих перепончатокрылых. Однако они безобидны, но птицы предпочитают их не трогать, принимая за опасных созданий. Взрослые журчалки питаются пыльцой и нектаром, занимая одно из ведущих мест среди насекомых-опылителей.

One of fifty-one new designs I captured from inside one of my real kaleidoscope. This particular scope uses light from the side which reflects through colored glass into pieces of glass and jewels floating in oil. It also has a black bottom and black sides so the light actually illuminates the inside items like neon.
