National Trust. Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire. Autumn 2022.

A selection of shots taken at The National Trust's Clumber Park, capturing a hint of Autumn towards the end of November, late afternoon as Dusk was falling.

Clumber Park is a beautiful expanse of parkland, heath and woods covering more than 3,800 acres. It offers freedom to discover a ducal park - explore picturesque parkland and gardens, peaceful woodlands and a magnificent lake. Not only is Clumber's mosaic of habitats home to an amazing array of wildlife, it is listed Grade I on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Lagria hirta

Lagria hirta is a species of beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. The species name hirta comes from the Latin hirtus meaning rough hair or rough wool, referring to the coarse, fuzzy appearance of the beetle.

Bullrush (Scirpoides Holoschoenus) Somewhat overlooked. When you stop and take a closer look and see the explosion of seeds bursting out with a gentle breeze detaching a few. Then that's the new season emerging right there :)

Perhaps not one of your favourite weeds to see. In each metamorphic stage it's very photographic.

They are edible and nutritious. Every part of this common edible weed is tasty both raw and cooked. If raw dandelion leaves don't appeal to you, they can also be steamed or added to a stir-fry or soup, which can make them taste less bitter. The flowers are sweet and crunchy, and can be eaten raw, or breaded and fried, or even used to make dandelion syrup or wine. The root of the dandelion can be dried and roasted and used as a coffee substitute, or added to any recipe that calls for root vegetables.

Sansom Wood, Nottinghamshire.

She twists and swirls with a cool spring breeze,

While dancing along the path with warm evening light.

Her spinning petals, flowing pollen; I hold back my sneeze.

Chasing a lovely flower and nowhere in her sight.

The common Butterweed that we pull out of the grass every early Spring. There is beauty in the weeds. One need only follow closely. I blended an ICM exposure with a macro capture of this butterweed. I thank each of you for every fav and comment. They help make my day. Have a happy weekend!

I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.

Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.

The Southern Emerald Damselfly (Lestes barbarus) is a slender damselfly, 40–45 mm long, with transparent wings. Its body shines metallic green or copper, with broad, light stripes. A distinctive feature is its bicolored wing spot, brown on the inside and whitish on the outside. It lives near small, sunny water bodies with dense vegetation and is active from June to September. The eggs overwinter, and the larvae develop into damselflies within 2–3 months.

Temperature not much above zero.

Macro capture of Turkeytail mushroom, lichen and moss on Garry oak tree branch in late February.

Garry oak ecosystems range from shady woodlands to open meadows with scattered trees which support many life forms including moss, lichens and fungi. Under the shelter of oak canopies or in meadows, spring wildflowers, grasses, mosses, and a variety of shrubs flourish.

A popular spot among local photographers.

Wide angle macro captured using a relay lens system (2.7mm M12 lens focuses the image onto a "virtual" plane which, in turn, is projected onto camera's sensor by a reversed 24mm).

Dragonflies are among the oldest insects on Earth, and their eyes, composed of numerous ommatidia, allow them to see almost 360 degrees around them. This makes them some of the most skilled predators in aerial hunting.

A close-up macro shot of a delicate white flower, its golden stamens glowing in the gentle light of spring. The soft focus and warm tones evoke a sense of calm, purity, and the fleeting beauty of nature’s smallest wonders.

“Convergent Evolution”

Some insects are as big as small birds.

“The hummingbird hawk-moth” is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.
