The parkland here is vast. For these few shots I endeavoured to capture macro with varying results.

Dandelions. Very common weed that adorns urban areas, gardens, fields and just about anywhere. Whatever you think of it, its various stages of transition are magical from a photographic perspective.

Dandelions may be considered a nuisance in parts of the garden, especially in weed-free lawns but have many herbal uses and are a good early source of nectar and pollen for insects so worth tolerating where possible.

Taraxacum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as Dandelions.

For several years now, we've planted dill as one of our back deck, potted herbs - but we never seem to get to eat any, and we're ok with that. Why? Because we discovered the dill, in turn, grows a crop of Black Swallowtail caterpillars!

As beautiful as this guy is, he will be even prettier when he turns into a butterfly. This guy is about 1" (2.5cm) long.

Handheld macro capture - it was kind of windy, so with the shallow Depth of Field, I needed to take a bunch of captures to get this one. High res, so zoom on in!

Papilio polyxenes on Anethum graveolens

These Allium Siculums are beginning to unfurl in my garden. They need a thin garden cane to help support them at this stage.

Nectaroscordum (Allium).

Alliums are part of the onion family. They bloom with bell-shaped flowers offering reddish-purple markings as you can see. Known as the Honey Garlic, Sicilian Honey Lily, Sicilian Honey Garlic, or Mediterranean Bells, is a European and Turkish species of plants genus Allium. It is native to the regions around the Mediterranean and Black Seas, and grown in other regions as an ornamental and as a culinary herb.

I loved experimenting on this rainy morning. This micro lens using manual focus can get quite close to create tiny macro captures under the cyclamen forest.

Still not sure where I’m headed with these nearsighted closeups. We shall see...

Thanks for looking!

This bright white narcissus has a vivid green-yellow shallow depth cup with a bright reddish-orange rim.

A very warm walk around Warnham Nature Reserve yesterday, there weren't many birds brave enough to venture out into the heat so out came the macro lens!

There's not a great deal to photograph in our garden at the moment (we've got a big trip to the garden centre planned once lockdown ends), but on closer inspection these little guys were hard at work.

Recently visited Oldmoor Wood, Nottinghamshire. Oldmoor Wood is a woodland in Nottinghamshire, near the village of Strelley. It covers a total area of 15.11 hectares. It is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust.

I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.

Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.

How to tell the difference.

English Bluebells: Flowers on one side of the stem.

Spanish Bluebells: Flowers all around the stem.

Macro capture of Turkeytail mushroom and moss on Garry oak tree branch in late February.

Garry oak ecosystems range from shady woodlands to open meadows with scattered trees which support many life forms including moss, lichens and fungi. Under the shelter of oak canopies or in meadows, spring wildflowers, grasses, mosses, and a variety of shrubs flourish.

A quick caveat - while the Spitfire gets all the glory , we must not forget the under rated Hawker Hurricane which was so successful during the Battle of Britain !!

So to start with a random shot of the sky before it went all to cloud and then to the pop up oven top kitchen studio with a new keyring I have been given ( could have done for "new " last week , so glad I saved it ) . The keyring was bought from the RAF Hendon Museum online store and it is of a Spitfire . The capture of the little Spitfire was done with the Sigma 105 , and for a size comparison see the first comment box -knowing how the 105 makes avery short DOF when up close , Ihad to stop down a fair old way to keep the aeroplane in a sharp view .

I took 8 or 9 shots paying special attention to angles to create a realistic air to air style of capture. Next I put them though the cut out studio in Serif CraftArist - good job I had a selection as the cut out could not define the outline of the aircraft very well in most of them and kept taking chunks out of the plane - sorted with this one and put the two shots together for the flight of the silver spitfire . this now captures the the feeling of being up there and the sky is the limit and you are free as a bird - the pilots of the day often say " You do not get into a Spitfire , you just strap it on !! "

And the Silver Spitfire in 2019 is a story on it's own , please check out the story in the link ---------------

And in this vein of up there in the skies with the Merlin singing it's song , this tune should should be heard on the airwaves !!
