Petite Tortue - Aglais urticae

The yellow daisies have started flowering and attracting some interesting insects.

I thought large whites lay their eggs in groups, but she's placed these randomly about the top surface of the leaf. I'll have to see what the caterpillars look like.

Volgens mij een zandoogje, maar ik weet het niet zeker.

Een Bruin Zandoogje weet ik inmiddels.

Grizzled Skipper

Feeding on Verbena bonariensis

This one seemed pretty tired and loved being photographed. Had a torn wing, too, I tried to hide behind the leaves :-)

Small Tortoiseshell butterfly

The Small Tortoiseshell is one of our most-familiar butterflies, appearing in gardens throughout the British Isles. Unfortunately, this butterfly has suffered a worrying decline, especially in the south, over the last few years.

Spotted this odd scene when looking at raindrops in webs on my greenhouse. On the inside between the glass and loose insulation/shading sheet was this butterfly with a shed spider skin on top of it. Assume the spider caught and ate the butterfly and then shed it's skin. No way I could get to it in situ so I carefully removed the tableau and set it up in the house

I thought all of the caterpillars I had hatching out recently on my salad rocket had been killed by a marauding common wasp, but did find 7 survivors yesterday

This pretty Lycaenid has a reddish-orange underside, the forewing unmarked, and the hindwing with large black submarginal spots on the white tornal area. The hindwings bear one long and two short tails.

The Branded Imperial is somewhat local in distribution, but is usually found in small numbers. It favours forest pathways at all elevations. The caterpillar feeds on Smilax bracteata, which is a common forest vine.

Garden photography.

Painted Lady Butterfly sitting on a leaf on the olive tree in my garden.

I think this one is the best from the series because it has an interesting angle, has the sharpness exactly right and a nice soft colored background.

I'm just not sure about the colors, I guess I really need color calibration because it doesn't look alright on all screens that I'm using.

trying some natural light macros for a change

This weekend I went to "Randers Regnskov" where they have a lot of beautiful butterflies. I think this is a Heliconius...
