Managed to capture some closeups of a red admiral butterfly feeding on sugar/honey spray on a camelia
Small cabbage white butterfly. Natural light. Focus stacked using zerene. Found this perched on a daffodil trumpet immobilised by the cold but moved it to some bluebells for an easier shot. See www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/26723761235/ for a 3D version
The focus could have certainly been better, but I think I did a pretty decent job considering I was a couple of feet away and these mating butterflies were moving about a mile a minute. The one on the leaf fluttered incessantly while the one flying darted in and out. It was quite the display.
Yesterday our photogroup visited the Sheep River area in Kananaskis country. This butterfly landed on Kerry's (www.flickr.com/photos/51285784@N03/) shirt and didn't want to leave. Since I had my macro lens on, I snapped a few shots of this little beauty!
Having a connecting flight at Changi airport in Singapore gives a good chance to take some easy pictures of butterflies in the butterfly garden inside the airport.
Top tip - allow your lenses to get warm after the flight before opening them in the 30degree, 90% humidity in the garden.
I'm not familiar with it's name but she just hatched minutes ago from her pupa. My little one has been waiting for it to come out and he screamed for me to take a picture of it.
