Pieris napi.

I've only just realised that I have this very common species in my garden as it is only when I take a pic that close examinination is possible.

These yellow daisies, are a mecca for insects, and catch the sun last in the evening as well as first thing in the morning..perfect!

Red Admiral butterfly. Think I was as suprised to see this as it was to see me. I was trying to photograph a drone fly - failed, turned round and this was about 12 inches away from my face. Love those hairy eyes. 4 shot focus stack using zerene

Butterfly macro from this summer. I don't really take the time to try to identify them since they're not primarily something I'm interested in.

Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi, Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro, Extension Tubes, and a Bracket mounted Sunpak 383 flash.

Thanks for looking and check out my page for lots more of my macros!

Papilio Polytes (Common Mormon)

11 days after pupating, a butterfly emerges! Last night, the second pupa died. It was hurt by the ants before I rescued it. Nothing I could have done. I haven't slept much, checking the pupa out, and even thinking I killed it when I sprinkled some water over it (believing that it might aid in its exit).

Let's celebrate, Berend and David! =)

Here's another of the wonderful butterflies from the exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences.
