The macro focus worked very well here because of the whiteness/brightness of the butterfly wings. That allowed the camera software to compute the focal distance accurately.

11 days after pupating, a butterfly emerges! Last night, the second pupa died. It was hurt by the ants before I rescued it. Nothing I could have done. I haven't slept much, checking the pupa out, and even thinking I killed it when I sprinkled some water over it (believing that it might aid in its exit).

It was more than wonderful to capture this Ulysses Butterfly with it's wings open. They are such beautiful creatures.

This butterfly was flapping round my bedroom. I have no idea what it's doing awake at this time of year - it should have hibernated in October!
I managed to capture it with a torch and transfer it to a light tent to photograph it.
