Gatekeeper butterfly focus stacked using zerene

The macro focus worked very well here because of the whiteness/brightness of the butterfly wings. That allowed the camera software to compute the focal distance accurately.

Papilio Polytes (Common Mormon)

11 days after pupating, a butterfly emerges! Last night, the second pupa died. It was hurt by the ants before I rescued it. Nothing I could have done. I haven't slept much, checking the pupa out, and even thinking I killed it when I sprinkled some water over it (believing that it might aid in its exit).

Let's celebrate, Berend and David! =)

It was more than wonderful to capture this Ulysses Butterfly with it's wings open. They are such beautiful creatures.

Holly blue butterfly on variagated holly. First shot of the year of one of these - fairly rare to get an open wing shot of one of these.

This butterfly was flapping round my bedroom. I have no idea what it's doing awake at this time of year - it should have hibernated in October!

I managed to capture it with a torch and transfer it to a light tent to photograph it.

On one stone wall on Herm island, there are lots of these pink flowers (valerian?) with clouds of moths and butterflies. I chased them up and down the wall with my phone trying to get a look at them and take some pics, but they never stop moving. Phone pic with clip on macro lens.
