Red Admiral butterfly. Think I was as suprised to see this as it was to see me. I was trying to photograph a drone fly - failed, turned round and this was about 12 inches away from my face. Love those hairy eyes. 4 shot focus stack using zerene

Butterfly macro from this summer. I don't really take the time to try to identify them since they're not primarily something I'm interested in.

Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi, Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro, Extension Tubes, and a Bracket mounted Sunpak 383 flash.

Thanks for looking and check out my page for lots more of my macros!

Playing with butterfly

This is one of my favorite of the day. It was delicate and beautiful and it let me hold it on my hand for a while.

The macro focus worked very well here because of the whiteness/brightness of the butterfly wings. That allowed the camera software to compute the focal distance accurately.
