I think this is a Gold Rim Swallowtail, It is some sort of Swallowtail from the North Somerset Butterfly house. Its a close crop as the detail of the butterfly is beautiful.
The butterflies are in a large tropical greenhouse which is very hot and humid. I missed the wind and changing sunlight when photographing native butterflies outside.
The Swallow tails are lovely I might have to go to the Norfolk Broads next summer to find our native Swallowtail.
Go large for the fine black/ white detail.
Spotted this butterfly hanging upside down from a book shelf in our dining room - Must have come in through the French windows
The long tongue allows the butterfly to get down deep into the flower for the sweetest pollen.
Macro taken inside the butterfly enclosure, Royal Melbourne Zoo, Parkville, Victoria.
Canon 400D - 100mm macro lens.
Red admiral butterfly continued. I did disturb the butterfly doing some high mag shots but it flew off and landed on a passionflower plant nearby. Strong natural light. Focus stacked using zerene. See www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/20754190423/ for a 3D version
