Nikon D5000 at ISO 200, Nikkor 105-mm macro lens, 1/100-sec at f/16, diffused sunlight & SB-600 flash unit with 3/4-ringlight attachment.
22 images taken with 50D and MP-E 65mm at 5x using 0.06mm steps with a Cognisys Stackshot and stacked in Zerene Stacker.
This butterfly was resting on a plastic garden table. It stayed perfectly still for several minutes allowing me to get real close and snap away :)
I never saw the top of its wings but I think, from the underside it's a Red Admiral.

This critter was being very elusive and the windy day didn't help.... finally managed to catch a shot of him on guess what - my favourite lavender!

When I took this picture I thought it was an Acmon Blue and didn't work very hard for perfection. Hoping there will be a next time!
I believe this to be a butterfly because the antennae are not feathery. This is probably a Common Banded Skipper
