I ordered my Mac mini straight after the MWSF 2005 Keynote and took these photos of the unpacking when it arrived a few weeks later.

The top of a used Apple Mac Mini I recently purchased.

Submitted to the Flickr group 7 Days of Shooting.

The Mac mini has...

1) a shared public drop folder, with an attached folder action script that imports music files into iTunes.

2) an Azureus torrent client, controlled remotely with the Azureus dashboard widget. The completed torrents folder also has a folder action that pulls new music files into iTunes

3) SlimServer, for remote music access

The Sonos Zone Player indexes all music on the Mac mini, for playback in any room of my apartment.

The Mac Mini connects to the tv, which acts like the main monitor. Connected by a DVI-DVI-cable.

We moved the information from Carolyn's old PowerBook to the mini using a FireWire cable and the Setup Assistant. All of her information was moved over and she was up and running in a few minutes.

Man, the combination of a UIWebView inside a UITableViewCell is just giving me crazy amounts of difficulty. It seems like it should be easy to figure out the size of a view to tell the table view how large to display it.

Anyway, I spent the whole day fighting with this and didn't leave the house. So, boring picture. In my defense, I was a computer geek before I was ever a camera geek.

(In case anyone's wondering, this is the sort of results you get with the iPhone 4's flash and zero postprocessing)

new display for the mac mini

This Mac Mini handles most of our Audio/Visual needs with the help of Sofa Control and/or Frontrow. Everything is digitized and put on two roomy external Hard Drives for easy access. On the left of the TV a Nintendo Wii completes the experience of a minimal "Media Center" setup.

I've bee a little absent on flickr. I just haven't had anything to post. I went to the beach last minute on Friday and spent the weekend doing nothing but swimming, skateboarding and relaxing. I didn't bring a camera because I didn't want to feel burdened by it. Picking out lenses to bring, one or two bodies, etc etc gets kind of tiring. There were plenty of photo opportunities, but I didn't have to worry about capturing them. Or worry about my camera sitting on the beach while I swam in the hurricane fueled waves for an hour or two.

But now I have this. It won't get nearly the same quality as my 5D, but I'll at least have a camera with me when I go on short trips to trail run or out skateboarding around the city. Situations where carrying my big stuff around isn't really worth it. Plus it takes HD video, and shoots RAW! All in my pants pocket.

Now I just have to wait for this stupid battery to charge so I can go use it!

This is my new Intel Core Duo based Mac mini, just as it came out of the box. The box is tiny, so is the Mac, which is very cute. I used the Mac Flickr Uploadr to upload this picture after setting up the network, speakers, free software, etc. This is my first Mac - I'm not making the "switch" - I'm ust having fun. (I have a Linux machine and a Windows XP machine too).
