I used a dial indicator to make sure it was parallel to the line of travel and used a transfer punch to mark the bolt hole pattern with a copper mallet.

This is a treadle sewing machine that I rescued for a friend. It has some damage to the bottom of the center compartment, but the rest of it is in beautiful condition. It has a built in walking foot instead of feed dogs, so it would make an ideal machine for quilting or working with heavy, tricksy materials like velvet.
