Visiting the alpine region of Australia the most shocking sight was the millions of dead trees, I am told caused by bushfires some years ago. One of the locals indicated that some sort of disease was affecting many of the eucalyptus which in this instance may have been the case as no sign of fire as the dead trees were random and in the eerie light took on a totally out of this world appearance.

Jean Tinguely, Mengele-Totentanz / Danse macabre, 1986:
A fourteen-part mechanical sculpture that is to be re-installed in a specially built, chapel-like room inside the museum. It owes its name to the āhigh altarā in the middle: a maize harvester ā so drastically deformed as to be barely recognisable ā made by the firm of Mengele, the family of the notorious Nazi concentration camp doctor. All the parts used for this work are relics of an infernal blaze at a farm not far from Tinguelyās studio in Neyruz, near Fribourg.
A scanned slide from long ago, showing the preaprations for a demonstration. I don't even remember what they were demonstrating against. Being the eigthies, it was probably nuclear power.....How times change.

I've disappeared for ages because of my Final Year Project whereby we have to design and sew a collection of 6 sets of garments. My collection was named Danse Macabre hence the title.
The details are laser cut leatherette glued and then stitched down onto the fabric.
