G-AWHC is the sole surviving two seat variant built by Hispano Aviacion in Saville in 1954. The 2018 Flying Legends Airshow included a section commemorating the filming of the Battle of Britain movie, 50 years earlier at this very airfield. An attack and dogfight sequence was carried out using 7 fighters which had taken part in the original filming.
Alongside three well-known Spitfires were no less than FOUR Hispano HA.1112 Buchons, masquerading then and now as German Bf109s.
From top to bottom the four are:-
'Yellow 10' (G-AWHK) c/n 172 and originally Spanish Air Force 'C.4K-102',
'Red 11' (G-AWHC) c/n 40/2, a rare two-seat M4L variant and originally Spanish Air Force 'C.4K-112',
'White 9' (G-AWHH) c/n 145 and originally Spanish Air Force 'C.4K-105'
and
'Yellow 7' (G-AWHM) c/n 187 and originally Spanish Air Force 'C.4K-99'.
An outstanding sight and sound!

New for the 2019 Bournemouth Air Festival Ultimate Fighters, presented by Ultimate Warbirds Flights, stared four of the most iconic warbirds - Hispono HA-1112-M4L Buchon "White 9" (G-AWHH), TF-51D Mustang "Contrary Mary", Supermarine Spitfire T.IX ML407 and Republic P-47D Thunderbolt "Nellie". The steller line up recreated close range aerial combat, referred to as dog fighting.
A dogfight, is an aerial battle between fighter aircraft conducted at close range. Dogfighting first occurred in Mexico in 1913, shortly after the invention of the airplane. Until at least 1992, it was a component in every major war, despite beliefs after World War II that increasingly greater speeds and longer-range weapons would make dogfighting obsolete.
Modern terminology for air-to-air combat is air combat maneuvering (ACM), which refers to tactical situations requiring the use of individual basic fighter maneuvers (BFM) to attack or evade one or more opponents. This differs from aerial warfare, which deals with the strategy involved in planning and executing various missions.
The closer aircraft is the Hispono HA-1112-M4L Buchon "White 9" (G-AWHH) which was first manufactured in 1958, the Buchon is fitted with late spec Rolls Royce Merlin, rather than the DB605 of an ME109. This installation gives the aircraft tremendous reliability while still maintaining the appearance and performance of the ME109.
The attacking aircraft is the TF-51D Mustang "Contrary Mary" which is a dual-controlled P-51 Mustang and is the only one of its type in the UK. Built too late to see combat service in the Second World War, P-51D 44-84847 was one of the last Mustangs constructed at North American Aviation's Dallas, Texas plant. She served with the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Kimpo during the Korean War.
