Hispano HA-1112-M4L Buchón (G-AWHM). In the colours of Luftwaffe 'Yellow 7' JG.26, Lille 1940 (Battle of Britain film), this aircraft was produced by La Hispano Aviacion in the 1950’s and was essentially a Messerschmitt Bf 109G with a British Rolls Royce Merlin engine installed. The Spanish Air Force operated the aircraft until late 1965 when it was then placed in storage.

This aircraft, and many other Buchóns, were then removed from storage and made airworthy again for the film 'The Battle of Britain.' During this time, between 1967 and 1968 the aircraft was placed on the UK civil register under the ownership of Spitfire Productions Ltd.

The aircraft then remained in storage in Texas until late 2015, when Air Leasing was tasked to collect the aircraft for its new owners and return it to airworthiness in the UK.

Always impressive, the annual finale to the Flying Legends airshow is a massed formation of warbirds, known as the ‘Balbo’.

These Buchons are just three of the 23 aircraft which took part in the 2019 Flying Legends ‘Balbo’ and are seen running through before their final break for landing.

Although painted as German Messerschmitt 109s, all three are actually postwar Spanish built Hispano Buchons powered by Rolls Royce Merlin engines and all three took part in the filming of the “Battle of Britain”movie in the late 1960’s before finding private owners.

Leading is ‘Yellow 7’, c/n 187 which saw Spanish Air Force service as ‘C.4K-99’ before being civil registered as G-AWHM for the filming. She is now operated by Air Leasing Ltd from Sywell.

Second is ‘Yellow 10’, c/n 172 which was C.4K-102 in Spanish Air Force service. She is now G-AWHK and is operated by the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARCo).

Third is two-seat ‘Red 11’, an M4L variant with the c/n 40/2. She saw Spanish Air Force service as ‘C.4K-112’ before being civil registered as G-AWHC for the filming. She is also now operated by Air Leasing Ltd.

Built in 1954 for the Spanish Air Force with the serial C.4K-112.

This is the only surviving two-seat Buchon and is a veteran of filming "The Battle of Britain" movie in 1968. She was one of several Buchons which then went stateside and it remained stored until 2015 when she was brought back to the UK. She was restored by Air Leasing at Sywell, who now operate her in the markings she wore during during filming.

She is seen taking off to display at the Imperial War Museum’s 2021 Battle of Britain Air Show.

The Hispano HA-1112-M4L “Buchon” is essentially a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine Messerschmitt Bf109. The Luftwaffe-manned Condor Legion upon its return to Germany in 1939, left around 40 Bf109B/E’s for the Spanish Air Force to use. In 1943 the Spanish government agreed to licence production with Messerschmitt to produce 200 Bf109G’s. As the war worsened, Germany was unable to supply the remaining components for the airframes. Improving relations between the Spanish government and the West from 1952, saw the powerful Rolls Royce Merlin engine sourced from Britain fitted to the airframe. The combination of ex-German airframe and British power plant was successful.

G-AWHC is the sole surviving two seat variant built by Hispano Aviacion in Saville in 1954. This aircraft was one of 27 purchased at auction from the Spanish Air Force by Spitfire Productions for use in the making of the 1968 movie “The Battle of Britain”. Luftwaffe Ace Adolf Galland flew G-AWHC during the movie. The aircraft was moved to Texas after filming and lay in storage there until being moved by Air Leasing LTD to the UK for restoration.

Protests continued for the 4th straight day against Moms for Liberty. Activists chanted, held signs, sang, yelled at M4L participants, heard speakers, and danced in unity.

Organizers know we need to build opposition now against fascism's rise before fascists gain power, when it will be too late.
