I found this graveyard holding the graves of some that were born in the late 18th century. Unfortunately some reckless kids have toppled over many of the stones as seen in the back left of this photograph.

The foundation of the University of Virginia lies in the mind and actions of Thomas Jefferson. While serving as President of the United States, Jefferson voiced his concerns about the educational opportunities for his native Virginia, believing that the state deserved a modern academic institution apart from its historic College of William and Mary which Jefferson deemed too reliant upon religion and ignorant of the sciences. Nearly a decade after he left the White House and returned to Monticello, Jefferson joined with other prominent Virginian leaders and Founding Fathers including James Madison, James Monroe, and John Marshall to establish the University of Virginia. The core of Jefferson’s idea can still be discerned by the physical campus in Charlottesville.

Unlike existing colleges in the United States, which were modeled on much older institutions in Europe, Jefferson’s “Academical Village” at the University of Virginia was not physically (or ideologically) centered around a church or chapel. Instead, Jefferson placed a library at the center of the campus, housed in the Rotunda, a structure based on the Pantheon in Rome. Jefferson laid out what is today called “The Lawn” with two rows of five “pavilions” which housed lecture rooms and housing for professors, connected by one-story colonnades which housed dormitory rooms for students. The “pavilions” provided locations for the University of Virginia’s original schools of medicine, law, mathematics, chemistry, ancient languages, modern languages, natural philosophy, and moral philosophy.

The Lawn, with its pavilions and colonnades leading to the Rotunda is the University of Virginia’s most enduring piece of Jefferson’s vision for the institution. While the overall layout is designed to convey a harmonious neoclassical style, mastered by Jefferson in buildings such as the Rotunda and Monticello, each of the ten pavilions which line the sides of the Lawn are different, presenting unique combinations of columns, facade massing, entablature treatments, and portico designs. Jefferson sought to create unique identities for each of the university’s schools which inhabited these pavilions and on a larger scale represented the old world foundations of the various courses of study students were engaged in while attending the university.

The most widely-recognized structure on the Lawn is the Rotunda, designed by Jefferson as a 1/2 scale replica of the Pantheon and built to house the university’s library. Construction on the Rotunda commenced in 1822 and was completed in 1826, shortly after Thomas Jefferson’s death. From his terrace at Monticello, aided by his telescope, Jefferson kept a watchful eye on the progress of construction at the University of Virginia. Over its history, the Rotunda has been converted from housing the university’s library to serving as a meeting and event space. The structure burned in 1895 and was rebuilt by 1899. The Rotunda has since undergone two significant restorations: one in 1976 and one in 2012.

Together, the Lawn and the Rotunda, along with Jefferson’s Monticello are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Stourhead House and Gardens, on the River Stour, Stourton, nr Warminster, Wiltshire, England, BA12 6QD

On the 2nd April I took a tour bus visit to this beautiful house and grounds. It lies in the seclusion of its own valley set in spectacular Gardens there is much to see on a day visit here. Stourhead was one of the first country villas to be built in the new Palladian style. The house was designed by Colen Campbell but Henry Hoare I unfortunately died the same year in which the house was completed. This Palladian villa style at Stourhead was constructed and then finished in 1725 and had taken four years to build. The land had previously been in the ownership of a family called Stourton’s and then Henry Hoare I, the new owner, pulled down the near derelict Stourton Manor to build his fashionable Palladian country house which was designed by the Scottish architect Colen Campbell.

A large lake is magnificent and is very important to the very essence of this splendid garden. Classical Temples adorn the grounds along with grottos and rare and exotic trees. Stourhead is at the very heart of a vast 1,072-hectare ( 2,650 acre ) estate where chalk downs, ancient woods and farmland are managed for nature conservation and perfect to explore. In 1902 a fire gutted the central part of the house resulting in the loss of all the furniture on the upper floors. By 1907 the restoration of the house was complete and in 1946 Stourhead was given to the National Trust.

It was once described as a living work of art by a magazine when it first opened its doors in the 1750’s. The careful consideration to the design by Henry Hoare 11 enabled the views to be almost unique just like scenes from a painting in landscape.

The Hoare family were very successful in the world of banking, which enabled them to buy Stourhead. Hoare’s Bank is the last independent bank and the Hoare family is still in charge and still running the bank today.

Elfen Lied is a really creepy series, and i can very well say the same for the pic.

The lights down the hallway versus the eerie lights next to lucy really give off a sort of cold murderous sort of feel in this picture.

The blood on lucys shirt and legs, the position shes in, and the one eye, give off a sort of murderous intent, telling the audience that while she just a girl, shes also a monster.

The Troll field lies in the northern part of the North Sea, around 65 kilometres west of Kollsnes, near Bergen.

The field comprises the main Troll Øst and Troll Vest structures in blocks 31/2, 31/3, 31/5 and 31/6.

Containing about 40 per cent of total gas reserves on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), it represents the very cornerstone of Norway’s offshore gas production.

Troll is also one of the largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. In 2002 the oil production was more than 400,000 barrels per day.

Equinor operate the Troll A, B and C platforms and the landfall pipelines, while Gassco is operator for the gas processing plant at Kollsnes on behalf of Gassled. Equinor is technical service provider for Kollsnes operations.

The enormous gas reservoirs lying 1,400 metres below sea level are expected to produce for at least another 70 years.
