Everything you think you know about your self is a lie.
It is not because you lie to your self, or that those who trained you, lied about what makes up your self.
It is a matter of distinctions. The self is not something you possess. It what you act and react to the world from. It is a reference for a collection of ideas that are pure abstractions. The lie is based upon collapsed identity structures where the self and I are one and the same
In collapsing the self into an I, you create a lie. I exist, the self does not exist. It is not a matter of religion, or faith, or belief.
Consider these basic statements:
I did that.
I did that by myself.
The first claims ownership, responsibility and integrity.
The second is much different. It states isolation, separateness and complete independence.
We learn to use the first to make claims of possessing skills and knowledge.
We learn to use the second sentence to make claims of independence.
From that usage, it is easier to see where I, me, my and mine are possessives, and self is referential to independence. What we act on and do independently is our self.
