The thing I'm actually more interested in with this post is the fact that I just do not see a whole lot of anti-war rhetoric in Peoria. I was out shooting this morning, and I came across this sticker. I was literally surprised to see it - most things stuck to poles in Peoria promote concerts in dorm rooms and the like.
Every Saturday, around lunchtime, a group (thanks vlkswagen) gathers at the corner of Main and University here in Peoria to protest. They're consistent as all hell but sadly they are about it. I've been against this war since day one and I'm not doing anything about it. I do plan to vote for someone who will end it ASAP but I'm not realistic about his chances of winning the Democratic nomination. I just hope our next leader actually leads us forward - and out of Iraq.
And the whole damn thing WAS a lie.

mutual cuddles and affections.
outside kitty has grown exponentially affectionate.
he won't eat until he's had his cuddles and pettings.
i still don't know what to call him.
he doesn't really respond to anything, but in my mind
he'll always be "band-aid".
in other news, not a day goes by where i don't think of my other kitty.
it's become easier, but yesterday, a sympathy card from the vet reminded me.
as a sweet and sentimental gesture, they included a clay circle that had
Rocky's name imprinted on it with a generic paw print in the middle.
my initial feelings were: you have no right to send me this generic nonsense.
why do people do this? because with that token, and that card came flooding back
all the memories of Rocky's last day on this planet. they way i held him as he died.
how light and hollow his lifeless body felt, and how i kissed his soul-less head
for the last time before burying him. the feeling of just how limp he was, still warm - yet
gone forever. and the overwhelming feeling of wanting to just stand there holding
him forever, unable to let go completely just yet.
the image of his body lying in the ground is burned into my memory.
and while most of the time my thoughts of him are the happier ones,
receiving a card from the very veterinary clinic that helped me end his life became suddenly
overwhelming. it hasn't even been a full month yet, but i miss my little buddy so very much.
i still step wide over his favorite sleeping spots, or think that movements i see out of the
corner of my eye are him, or worst of all - expect him to be laying by the door waiting for
me when i come home.
after wrestling with these thoughts, i decided that they honestly didn't mean any harm
by it. it's good business after all, and all the signatures on the card were real and not
printed - so that means something, right?
i put the token on my bookshelf, next to the photo of Miss Sweetie Pie and
the snippet of Rocky's fur that i clipped just before his final hours.
a few minutes and a million thoughts later, i grabbed a can of cat food for outside kitty.
when i opened the door, i took one step and opened my mouth ready to call out to him -
but there he was. sitting outside the door, already waiting.
when he saw me he jumped up and meowed loudly whilst rubbing against my legs.
i dumped the food out for him, but he didn't go for it immediately.
instead he rolled around in front of me baring his belly, jumping up on occasion
to head butt my kneecaps. i sat down next to him and we enjoyed each other's
company for about fifteen minutes. i always know when he's hungry, but as i said
earlier, he doesn't eat until we've had "our time". sometimes i have to instruct him
as to when "our time" is over by picking him up, giving him kisses and scritches as
diagrammed in the photo above, and setting him next to his food.
i don't know where he came from, but i think i know why.
he is beautiful, and amazing, and so affectionate.

Saw this leaf resting on the cool green grass. I had to literally lie down on the grass (in my work clothes), place the camera at slightly above grass level, manipulate the focus ring on the manual lens to get the right effect... I like how the picture turned out.
I love the way the bright colors of the red just seamlessly merges with the green of the grass. And the way the very thin sliver of focus creates a "wall" between two areas. I like this sort of photography... colors and an illusion created by manipulating the physics of light and glass.
Contractors and foremen discuss the renovation project at Lied Lodge & Conference Center at Arbor Day Farm, Nebraska City, Nebraska. Renovation work is underway now with an estimated completion date of April 2015.
There is an 8mm rod going from the base plate to the top plate. Two o-rings tighten the seal and make up for the uneven canister. Cables are glued through, but not otherwise sealed. Ample silicone grease helps slide the packs in. Two holes are made in each top lid: for a screw to pull the pack out if needed, and air hole to equalize pressures.
Although there is no hydrogen buildup during charging of LiIon packs, I think it might still be a good idea to open the venting screw.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram lies on the west bank of Chao Phraya River, south west of the old city of Ayutthaya. It is a large compound and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It can be reached by road or by boat. The temple was constructed in 1630 by the king Prasat Thong as the first temple of his reign, as a memorial of his mother's resident in that area. The temple's name literally means the Temple of long reign and glorious era. It was designed in Khmer style which was popular in that time.
It has a central 35 metre high prang in Khmer style with four smaller prangs. The whole construction stands on a rectangular platform. About halfway up there are hidden entrances, to which steep stairs lead.The central platform is surrounded by eight Chedi shaped chapels ( Thai : Meru Thit Meru Rai ), which are connected by a rectangular cross shaped passage ( Phra Rabieng ). The passage had numerous side entries and was originally roofed and open inwards, but today only the foundations of the pillars and the outside wall still stand. Along the wall, there were 120 sitting Buddha statues, probably painted in black and gold.
The eight Chedi like chapels are formed in a unique way. They had paintings on the interior walls, the exterior ones decorated by 12 relief's depicting scenes from the life of Buddha ( Jataka ), which must be read clockwise. Just fragments of the paintings and the relief's survived. In each of the rectangular Chedi’s were two sitting Buddha statues and in each of the four middle Chedi’s was one big sitting Buddha statue, also lacquered in black and gold. The ceiling over those statues was of wood with golden stars on black lacquer.
Outside the passages on the east, close to the river was the temple's ordination hall ( Phra Ubosot ). North and south from the Ubusot stood two Chedi’s with 12 indented corners, in which the ashes of the king's mother were laid.
After the total destruction of the old capital by the Burmese in 1767, from which Wat Chai Watthanaram was not spared, the temple was deserted. Theft, sale of bricks from the ruins and the beheading of the Buddha statues were common. Only in 1987 did the Thai Department of Fine Arts start restoring the site. In 1992 it was opened to the public. Wat Chaiwatthanaram was a royal temple where the king and his successors performed religious ceremonies. Princes and princess were cremated here, including King Boromakot's son Chaofa Thammathibet
The Wat Chaiwatthanaram structure reflects the Buddhist world view, as it is described already in the Traiphum Phra Ruang, the three worlds of the King Ruang, of the 14th century: The big Prang Prathan that stands in the centre symbolizes the mountain Meru which consists the central axis of the traditional world Around it lie the four continents ( the four small Prangs ) that swim in the four directions in the world sea On one of the continents, the Chomphutawip , the humans live. The rectangular passage is the outer border of the world, the Iron Mountains.
This temple is worth the price. One warning though: Take heed before climbing the staircase leading to the central Khmer-style prang. Many tourists find it frighteningly steep when descending back down. The steps can be narrow and dangerous, and there is not much inside the 35 meter high tower that is worth the effort. Thai tourists should take special note that Queen Sirikit had the Tumnak Siriyalai Palace build directly across the river from Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Admission to the temple is 20 Baht and opening hours are 08:00 to 18:00.
How to get there: You can reach the temple’s ruins by bicycle if you have hired one, and a Tuk Tuk fare will be in the 30 Baht range from the town centre. Long tail boat services are available from Chankasem Palace at around 350 Baht for the full one hour round trip.

The criminal attack being planned against Syria is based on lies. They are not hard to expose.
The Syrian government was given a formal request on Saturday, Aug. 24 to grant access to a United Nations team of inspectors to the town in the outskirts of Damascus to determine if chemical weapons had been used. The Syrian government granted permission the very next day, Sunday, Aug. 25.
Obama administration officials then immediately declared that the inspections no longer mattered because the Syrian government had delayed UN weapons inspectors’ access to the site. In fact, top U.S. officials called UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon on Aug. 25 (when Syria agreed that the inspectors could visit) demanding that he cancel the UN weapons inspections because they “were pointless.” (Wall Street Journal, Aug. 26)
The claim against Syria is ludicrous. The Syrian government would not have an interest in using chemical weapons knowing that it would be the trigger for NATO military intervention. The government was winning the war. The foreign-backed armed rebel groups could only win the war if the U.S. and/or NATO intervened directly.
Every imperialist attack and every imperialist-inspired regime change strategy requires a pretext and a public rationale. There needs to be a noble cause to justify the aggression. Since it is the 21st century rather than the 19th century, the politicians of western capitalism have to conceal and mask their predatory aims as they routinely bomb and kill people in the Middle East, Asia and Africa who resist allowing their lands and resources to fall under the domination of western corporations, banks and business interests.
“Public opinion” required a humanitarian motive for the bombing of Afghanistan in 2001, Iraq in 2003, Libya in 2011 and Syria in 2013.
The greatest purveyors of violence in the world present themselves as the greatest purveyors of humanitarian interests in the world.
Syria is not threatening the United States nor is anyone in the Obama administration suggesting such a threat exists. Thus, the planned military strikes against Syria are a violation of the UN Charter and international law.
