Snow lies on the highest peaks of the Spanish Pyrenees for most of the year. This typifies much of the scenery in the region: flat fertile valleys, steep wooded cliffs and snow-capped peaks. It is in this flat valley at Belaula that the Wildcat has been seen. We searched at dawn for this elusive felid, the sunlit snow clad peaks reflected in the river below exuding a sense of tranquility. However, recent snowfall formed a blanket over the Water Vole mounds reducing our chances of seeing the Wildcat who would likely retreat to the forest for hunting.

Tot voor kort was het in Lier een komen en gaan van 21'ers en 27'ers. Het grootste aandeel reed op de IC relaties tussen Turnhout-Binche en Antwerpen-Hamont, maar bij de introductie van de rechtstreekse IC Antwerpen-Hasselt werd ook hier een omloop voorzien van een 27 met M4 rijtuigen. Ik kon zo'n rit vastleggen in het voorjaar van 2022, waarbij de 2708 na een korte stop in Lier de reis weer verder zet richting Antwerpen.

What lies beneath? Facets of our being. Overwhelming detail, ideas and unknown fragments that shape patterns in our lives. They are all finely meshed together forming the whole being. Exploding with color. Both with form and without. Reflecting the whole from within.
Located on the Nete river, Lier was settled in the 8th century and developed around the chapel of St. Peter. Lier became an important textile centre in the 14th century. It was besieged and taken by the Spanish in 1582, by the Dutch in 1595, and by the English in 1706 during the War of the Spanish Succession.
Lier is a French commune that was granted city rites in 1212. It is located in the Flanders region of Northern Belgium. Located on the Nete river, Lier was settled in the 8th century and developed around the chapel of St. Peter. Lier became an important textile centre in the 14th century. It was besieged and taken by the Spanish in 1582, by the Dutch in 1595, and by the English in 1706 during the War of the Spanish Succession. Belgian nationalists resisted a Dutch attack in 1830. Belgium has seen its fair share of war and occupation.
Destruction of Lier occurred as a result of bombing in Antwerp in 1914; however, many of the medieval structures survived including, the Gothic belfry, St. Gommarus’ Church and the béguinage.
The fog lies over the port of Hamburg this morning, wet, cold and heavy. Except for the quiet hum of a few ferries or small motorboats, this part of Hamburg still seems to be asleep. Not even the typical cries of the seagulls can be heard (no wonder, in this bloody cold I wouldn't open my beak too wide either).
And yet I know that this silence is deceptive and that the working day is already in full swing all around me. You could already see that on the pretty busy ferry that took me here from the Landungsbrücken.
I also suspect that over there in the Elbphilharmonie opera house (if anyone doesn't know it, that's the impressive building on the right) the preparations for the day are already in full swing.
For my part, I'm lucky enough to be able to return to my accommodation soon, where I can bring my frozen feet back to life.
Nass, kalt und schwer liegt an diesem Morgen der Nebel über dem Hamburger Hafen. Bis auf das leise Brummen von ein paar wenige Fähren oder kleinen Motorbooten scheint dieser Teil von Hamburg noch zu schlafen. Nicht einmal das typische Geschrei der Möwen ist zu hören (kein Wunder, bei dieser Arschkälte würde ich meinen Schnabel auch nicht allzu weit aufreissen).
Und trotzdem weiß ich, dass diese Stille trügt und überall um mich herum der Arbeitstag bereits in vollem Gange ist. Das hat man schon auf der ziemlich gut frequentierten Fähre gesehen, die mich von den Landungsbrücken hierher übergesetzt hat.
Auch vermute ich, dass da drüben im Opernhaus Elbphilharmonie (falls es jemand noch nicht kennt, das ist das beeindruckende Gebäude auf der rechten Seite) schon die Vorbereitungen für den Tag in vollem Gange sind.
Ich für meinen Teil habe das Glück bald wieder zurück zu meiner Unterkunft zu dürfen, wo ich dann meine gefrorenen Füße wieder zum Leben erwecken kann.

Taken at low tide, on the beach in the Comox Valley, I always check out this rock I prefer it when the tide is not quite this low, because this looks lovely under water will post an under water photo some other time.
The icy waters of the Sound were slowly receding, softly singing a lullaby as it withdrew, "Return to your warm bed and rest your weary head. Only treachery lies ahead, one false move and you will be dead". I replied, "Thank you Winter waters for your song of concern. I will heed your wisdom". I slipped on my cleats and continued past the rocks still covered in moss and mud.
