The ever-going saga of Lufthansa's Boeing 787 fleet, the German flag-carrier still operates 5 examples which were inherited from orders subsequently not taken up by Hainan Airlines, Suparna Airlines and Vistara Airlines; yet Lufthansa have still yet to receive their own batch of Boeing 787-9s with many still languishing awaiting delivery.
At present, the 5 existing Boeing 787-9s with Lufthansa are earmarked for Austrian Airlines to replace the ageing Boeing 767-300ERs, but their transfer is only contingent when Lufthansa actually receives their own fleet of Boeing 787-9s.
There have been a number of setbacks regarding Lufthansa's own Boeing 787-9s; 15 are currently at Boeing's Charleston facility in varying states, however Lufthansa who are due to receive 10 by the end of 2025 have been unable to take delivery of them owing to the Allegris Business Class seats manufactured by Collins Aerospace have yet to be certified.
As a result of the seats yet to be certified, Lufthansa have made the decision to take delivery of their first Boeing 787-9s with the Allegris seats blocked out until they get certified. Lufthansa will take delivery of their first Boeing 787-9s from late-September 2025 with some of seats blocked and to be utilised on Lufthansa's lower demand long-haul routes.
Once deliveries commence, the Boeing 787-9s should enable the 5 existing Boeing 787-9s to transfer over to Austrian Airlines, and should also enable Lufthansa to gradually replace the Airbus A330-300s and Airbus A340-300s.
Currently, Lufthansa operates 5 Boeing 787s, all of which are Boeing 787-9s. Lufthansa have 34 Boeing 787-9s on-order
Alpha Bravo Papa Charlie is one of 5 Boeing 787-9s operated by Lufthansa, not taken up by Hainan Airlines and Vistara before being delivered new to the German flag-carrier on 18th January 2023 and she is powered by 2 General Electric GEnx-1B74/75 engines. She is named after the northern German city of Kiel in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. She is due to transfer over to Austrian Airlines at a later date.

Das waren noch Zeiten, als man an Bord noch mit edlem Porzellan bewirtet wurde. Demnächst muss man wohl sein Butterbrot selbst mitbringen.
