The Beach Lighthouse (also known as the Lower Light) is a 44-foot (13 metre) tall sandstone lighthouse in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England.
The lighthouse was designed in 1839 by Decimus Burton and Capt H.M. Denham. Burton had been commissioned three years previously by Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood as the architect of the new town of Fleetwood. Unusual for a lighthouse, it is in neoclassical style with a square colonnaded base, square tower, and octagonal lantern and gallery.
The Lower Light stands on Fleetwood sea front and was built with its counterpart—the Upper Light, or Pharos Lighthouse—to provide a navigational guide to shipping entering the Wyre estuary. Together the lights provide a leading line when the Pharos Light is directly above that of the Lower Light. Together they provide a range of about 12 nautical miles (22 km). In turn they point to the Wyre Light on the North Wharf Bank, 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) offshore.
Both lighthouses were first illuminated 1 December 1840. Each was run off the town's gas supply, with a single parabolic reflector placed behind the burner; later they were converted to electricity.
The Beach Lighthouse was designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage on 26 April 1950. The lighthouse is managed by the Port of Fleetwood. Wikipedia
I don't like this November gray at all -
therefore a strong counterpoint from me today.
Photographed this year in August with my iPhone.

A burst of sunlight hit the trees just as I took this shot of the Lower Rivelin reservoir from the dam wall.
Rivelin Dams are a pair of water storage reservoirs situated in the upper part of the Rivelin Valley, 5 miles (8 km) west of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. The dams are owned by Yorkshire Water and provide water to 319,000 people as well as compensation water for the River Rivelin. They are named Upper and Lower and fall just within the eastern boundary of the Peak District.
Manza and Asama areas have many small/big waterfalls with different characters .Some are very wild and others are smooth and feminine
NJ Transit ALP-45DP no. 4519 is seen leading Montclair-Boonton Line train 1003 under the Freemand Pkwy bridge in Glen Ridge, NJ, also crossing Toneys Brook at the same time. The railroad through here was built by the Newark and Bloomfield Railroad in 1856, later grade-separated and double-tracked by the Morris & Essex Railroad in 1912. Electrification came in 1930 - with the first train operated by Thomas Edison himself - and in 1945 full ownership of the line went to the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western.
This picture was taken from a Circle Line boat ride sponsored by Open House New York. (The tall building with the spire on the left side of the picture is the World Trade Center.)
The disused lower lighthouse on the beach at Dovercourt next to Harwich in Essex, England.
The upper and lower lights at Dovercourt were built in 1863, decomissioned in 1917 and restored to encourage tourism in the 1980s. They acted as leading lights for ships steering towards Harwich harbour.

One of 18 visits to Lower Mill Falls since early 2000.
A photo from 2012 showing Lower Manhattan and the financial district, as seen from the Empire State Building. The photo was taken in the early morning sun, which casted some nice shadows over many buildings. On the left hand side East River is visible, with its iconic bridges. Hudson River is visible on the right hand side. The Freedom Tower was still under construction in 2012. Some other famous landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty are also visible.
The panorama was composed from nine different photos, all taken using an Olympus PEN E-PL1 camera and M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 lens. Although there are some minor stitching and lighting errors I am quite pleased by this end result. :-)
Hooded Merganser
Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, CA
This male Hooded Merganser and Cinnamon Girl (previous post) appeared to be a pair as they were staying in the same area and very close to each other. Their bond will only last a short time though. Per Cornell, once the female starts incubating eggs, the male abandons her and it is unknown if they reunite the next season.
The Lower Peirce Reservoir is one of the oldest reservoirs in Singapore. Previously known as Kallang Reservoir. It has a surface area of 6 hectares and the surrounding forest contains many trees that are over 100 years old. (wiki)
This is an old picture I have never post processed from my last trip in the USA in 2018. Thank you for watching.
The Orange Steps were built in the late Ottoman period. Running parallel to Old Jaffa’s sea wall, the steps were used to lower crates of the famous Jaffa oranges onto the ships that took them to Europe. Nowadays the steps lead from a harbour largely given over to pleasure craft up into a warren of streets impassable to vehicles that climb up the hill to St Peter’s Church.
Jaffa’s sea wall ran right by here until the British reclaimed the land to expand and develop the port. Much of its materials had already been used by the Ottoman’s towards the end of their rule to improve the pier.
Jaffa – haunting, hipster, horrendously crowded; occasionally an infuriating tourist-trap; more often a magical delight, especially when the sun starts setting on the Mediterranean and the light on the Ottoman sandstone becomes magical. Jaffa is a place of contradictions: one of the few genuinely mixed neighbourhoods in Israel and also a site of terrible expulsions of Arabs in 1948; one of Israel’s most Left-leaning districts but completely unaffordable for ordinary people, Arab and Jew alike; part of modern Tel Aviv but somehow grafted out of all the cultures that have made this stretch of the Mediterranean their home back to the Phoenicians.
Each of the four days I was in Tel Aviv I would come down here as the sun got low in the sky and if I lived closer I would go for a walk here most days at sunset. It is magical.
The lower arch of Zion's Double Arch feature at the end of Taylor Creek Trail in the Kolob Canyons section. On the approach to this double arch, the intense saturated colors on the shaded red walls of the sheer cliffs was absolutely stunning.
We must have been there at just the right time of day when the reflected light from the red rocks on the other side of the canyon intensified the colors. By the time we were heading back, this effect was already beginning to fade.

Peirce Reservoir, located at the lower portion of Kallang Valley, was commissioned in 1912. It was originally known as the Kallang River Reservoir and was renamed Peirce Reservoir in 1922 after Robert Peirce, the Municipal Engineer from 1901 to 1916. The reservoir was again renamed Lower Pierce Reservoir in 1975 after the construction of the new Upper Peirce Reservoir. It was Singapore's second and largest impounding reservoir. The maximum capacity of Pierce Reservoir is 757 million gallons.
The Mansilla Reservoir is located in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja (Spain), between the towns of Mansilla de la Sierra and Villavelayo. It has a capacity of 68 hm³, occupying an area of 246 hectares. It is located on the Najerilla River, a tributary of the Ebro River. Its waters hide in them the old town of Mansilla de la Sierra, whose church and other buildings are visible when it is low.
