Lower Falls, Yellowstone National Park

Lower Trail Waterfall at John Byran State Park in Ohio www.cbookerphotography.com

This image was taken in very early morning light, from Artist Point in Yellowstone National Park. The next time I visit Yellowstone, I will visit this location later in the day. On this day, the South Rim and North Rim roads were closed due to snow and ice. A gate blocked the road as I approached the area, and I parked alongside the road. A ranger happened to be in the area, so I asked if I could hike up to Artist's Point, even though the road was closed. He said that I could, but to be careful since he had just seen a large grizzly bear along the road, and fresh wolf tracks. I had some bear spray with me, so I decided to take the hike in the 12 degree weather (although I was not sure the bear spray would work after sitting in my freezing cold car all night). It felt very adventurous, with awesome scenery. I include this photo only as a memory of my hike. Horrible lighting.

Artist Point is one of the marquee overlooks on the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River, with an exceptional perspective of canyon’s most famous feature, the 308-foot Lower Falls. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 60,000 gallons of water rush over Lower Falls each second, depending on the season. Looking across the gaping 1,000-foot deep chasm, the north rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River is about 3/4 of a mile (as the crow flies) from Artist Point. One of the most beautiful of the Cotswold villages

In the middle of Yellowstone National Park, the Lower Falls waterfall is located in a section known as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. This area is where Yellowstone gets its name.

Not the most inviting of village names but certainly one of the most attractive locations in the Cotswolds. It even manages to look cosy in Winter (must go back in Summer ..)

. . . It is totally unfair! The Upper Tahquamenon falls get all of the attention, and the Lower Falls are virtually ignored. Well I intent to right this wrong on my future postings! I hope everyone likes root beer colored water!

Have a great week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

The 93 foot Lower South Falls is another of the falls in Silver Falls State Park that visitors can walk behind the falls protected by a combination of wood fence and rock wall.

Happy Fence Friday!

Lower Antelope Canyon nr Page Arizona.

I was fortunate that I had already photted this loco earlier in the day and got an outcome I was very happy with at Seascale, because I was disappointed with the outome of this one at Sandside.

Increasing wind meant that the shot I wanted here of 68007 working the 10.00 Drigg B.N.F - Shap Summit Quarry was compromised by limited pole height as a result of wind gusts of up to 30mph.

Got out to enjoy a couple waterfalls with Darren yesterday. The weather started out beautiful with a wonderful foggy atmosphere, which quickly changed into a continuous rain. The area is not quite at peak color, but is beautiful nonetheless! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bond Falls is a gorgeous waterfall in southern Ontonagon County and one of the most popular in the U.P. The total drop of the falls is around 50 feet.

Thanks for viewing.
