This is my young friend Logan running two dogs on day one of the Junior North American Sled Dog Championships. It's a three day race and on Friday the kids get out of school to run dogs - which is how the world should be.

Logan's Mom and Dad are committed to sled dog rescue and actively involved in The Second Chance League, our local husky rescue organization.

I'll be a bit busy for the next few days.

Logan Blvd. from Kedzie to the Kennedy Expressway is a revelation. I had heard about it -- it's a part of Chicago's belt system of green, tree-lined parkways (Midway Plaisance, Garfield Blvd., Western Blvd., Douglas Blvd, Independence Blvd. are some of them) connecting major parks: Jackson, Washington, Gage, Douglas, Washington, and Humboldt.

They were always lined with grand churches and mansions and elegant apartment buildings, or, in the case of Midway Plaisance, University of Chicago campus buildings. Garfield Blvd, Western Blvd., Independence Blvd. and Douglas Blvd. have fallen on hard times, but Logan has kept its former elegance, and attracted buyers who have been priced out of Lincoln Park and Lake View.

The joggers, the Starbucks on Francisco, the yuppie woman walking the short-haired pointer who was alerting at every squirrel -- mute testimony to this area's resurgence.

I suspect the attendance at local CAPS meetings is more than just a faithful few -- on the east end of the boulevard, just west of the Kennedy Expressway, sat a Chicago police SUV.

Logan Airport

Boston, MA

Flights 11 and 175 departed from this airport. The hijackers specifically chose Logan airport because of it's distance from the World Trade Center. It's thirty minute flight time to New York was a perfect time frame to hijack the planes and crash them before the military interfered.

All planes hijacked that day were headed for California. The choice of transcontinental flight was essential to the plot, because that meant maximum fuel capacity.

Yes, this is my picture, I took it from the plane.

These gardens at Port Logan in Wigtownshire, Southwest Scotland benefit from the effects of the Gulf Stream and contain many plants, shrubs and trees which are normally found in much warmer climates.

These pictures are from a PDF on the Logan Valley Mall fire. Just google "logan valley mall fire" and it'll pop right up. :P

Firefighters were able to stop the fire just as it reached the Penneys entrance.

It took me the longest time to figure out what exactly this was a picture of–this was the interior entrance inside of the actual mall, not a set of doors from outside. Besides, the store had that cool, swanky old Penney’s logo on the exterior anyway.

(Edit ten years later: The interior of the Penney’s store was renovated in the late 70s, thus the new signage inside.)
