Crystal Clear lock info ...

For those familiar with lake okeechobee if you're driving around it you notice that the walls of the lake are above street level, so when I happened upon this channel with a large boat docked on it, i was taken back by the fact that there was a lock behind it that would allow ships of this size be raised to the lake level. This marina affords do users of larger boats the ability to drop in for lunch. @nautical_images #nautical_images

This is Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 59. This view is of the the upper entrance, looking east , taken from across the street. It was built in 1841 with the south chamber being added in 1874 . The north chamber has most of its stone walls exposed and you can walk about halfway down inside it, after that it gets a little swampy. The south chamber is partly buried . The three openings in the head of the lock are spillway entrances which were used to to release excess water and control the water level. It is located in the village of Newark NY., off route 31 onto North Clinton Street. It is across from the present Erie Barge Lock 28 B.

A locked gate! The week had been very hot, and the logging companies locked the gates on Friday - my exit day - to stop people from going in on the weekend. Thankfully there was someone stationed at the other gate to let people out.

Taken on a trip to Argus Mountain, Mount Harmston, and The Red Pillar including the Upper Cliffe Glacier and Lower Cliffe Glacier. Entry and exit were via Oshinow Lake.
