Petralia Soprana is located in the heart of Sicily, in the province of Palermo.

It is the highest town in the Madonie mountains, it dominates a vast landscape that ranges from the snow-capped peaks of Etna, to the city of Enna and the mountains of Palermo and then the wide valleys and waterways of the countryside that surround it.

A center of considerable importance during the Greek and Carthaginian domination, Petralia was the first Sicilian city to be dominated by the Romans, called "Petra" it was one of the cities that supplied the largest quantities of grain to the Roman Empire.

Following the Arab conquest, its name was changed to “Batraliah” and it became a powerful defensive stronghold at the time of the Normans.

Even today the town still preserves its medieval urban structure intact, with narrow paved streets, churches and noble palaces, suggestive courtyards and linear stone houses that widen into suggestive little squares and splendid views.

In 2018 it was awarded the title of "Most beautiful village in Italy".

Located in Chicago's Millennium Park, Cloud Gate, aka "The Bean," is a public sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor that has become one of the city's most photographed attractions since its completion in 2006. That makes this shot--with a section of Chicago skyline reflected in the sculpture's stainless steel surface--a perfect fit for Cliche Saturday.

.... located in Midway Geyser Basin, has the distinction of being the park’s largest hot spring. It measures approximately 370 feet (112.8 m) in diameter and is over 121 feet (37 m) deep. A description of this spring by fur trapper Osborne Russell in 1839 also makes it the earliest described thermal feature in Yellowstone that is definitely identifiable.

Located near Fallen Leaf Lake, this 65 foot waterfall cascades over rocks and looks like steps.

The road to this waterfall is narrow. About 1.5 cars wide. So every oncoming vehicle has to be negotiated, Waving cars to go and being waved to go. The drivers are usually courteous as everyone is trying to get to or from the waterfall.

Located on a beautiful fjord on the coast of Montenegro, Kotor is a city steeped in tradition and history, with remarkable scenic views. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the old city was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is filled with medieval architecture and historic monuments. Extending over 4 kms., the city walls that have protected Kotor for centuries lead up to the fortress of Saint Ivan. This is one of the views you will appreciate on your way up to the fortress. It is impossible to deny the beauty of this place despite the poor weather on this day. Hope you enjoy!

Lake Montriond is located in the Haute-Savoie in the French Chablais region. The lake is frequented by fishermen and especially by walkers and hikers.

The lake of Montriond was created by the collapse of a part of the mountain of Nantaux in the North West. This geological event, which is not dated with certainty (from 4500 years to 3 or 4 centuries!), caused a dam on the torrent which ran at the bottom of the valley, hence the

formation of the lake.

Located on the banks of the Calonne (a small watercourse), the church of Fontaine-la-Louvet, of Romanesque origin (not visible in the picture), was rebuilt in the 15th century in stone and flint. From the Romanesque period, only the apse remains. To the north are two chapels from the first half of the 16th century, with stone and flint chequerboard walls (but this is the south side). The large bays also date from the 16th century. The rectangular windows were drilled in the 17th century. The entrance gate, placed to the west, is sheltered by a half-timbered porch from the 16th century. Many villages of Eure have horrible red street lanterns. They destroy every photo. That's why I desaturated them.

The National Orchid Garden, located within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, was opened on 20 October 1995 by Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. The Singapore Botanic Gardens has been developed along a 3-Core Concept. The three Cores consist of Tanglin, which is the heritage core that retains the old favourites and rustic charms of the historic Gardens; Central, which is the tourist belt of the Gardens; and Bukit Timah, which is the educational and recreational zone. Each Core offers an array of attractions. The National Orchid Garden is located in the Central Core of the gardens. The Garden is located on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Providing a place for 60,000 orchid plants - consisting of 1000 species and more than 2,000 hybrids - is the three hectares of carefully landscaped slopes. The design concept presenting the display of plants in four separate color zones: the spring zone with its prevailing colours of bright and lively shades of gold, yellow and creams; the summer zone with its major tones of strong reds and pinks; the autumn zone of matured shades; and the winter zone of whites and cool blues. A careful combination of selected trees, shrubs, herbs and orchids (mostly hybrids) with matching foliage and floral colours depicts the colour combination.

Oncidium, abbreviated as Onc. in the horticultural trade, is a genus that contains about 330 species of orchids from the subtribe Oncidiinae of the orchid family (Orchidaceae). As presently conceived, it is distributed across much of South America, Central America, Mexico and the West Indies, with one species (O. ensatum) extending into Florida. Common names for plants in this genus include dancing-lady orchid and golden shower orchid. Most species in the Oncidium genus are epiphytes, although some are lithophytes or terrestrials. They are widespread from northern Mexico, the Caribbean, and some parts of South Florida to South America. They usually occur in seasonally dry areas. 31479

Located on the northern end of Kailua Bay which I mentioned in an earlier posting is Mokapu Point on the island of Oahu, Mokapu Point is itself a portion of the former caldera of the prehistoric Ko’olau Volcano. This image taken from Kailua Beach. Mokapu Point lies within the confines of the Marine Corps Base Hawaii and is off limits except to military or for authorized biological studies of the Red-Footed Boobies who have a colony there and other wildlife. Even though not evident here, when out in the water in our kayak paddling towards the Mokes, the caldera formation is very evident from further out in the water unfortunately it is the ocean so I was unable to capture a steady shot from the kayak of the caldera rim as we were in the ocean the waters were not very conducive to pausing the paddling, stopping and framing an image. - - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @oahu_hawaiii @visit.hawaii #oahu #mokapu

Located within the Arun Valley in West Sussex, Pulborough Brooks has beautiful views across to the South Downs and is set in one of the richest areas for nature in the country. The nature reserve has a great variety of habitats. The lowland wet grassland is part of the Arun Valley floodplain and is criss crossed by ditches which host rare plants. The grassland, pools and scrapes provide feeding areas for wintering wildfowl and nesting areas for wading birds. On higher ground there are wildflower meadows and arable fields for winter finches. These are linked by hedgerows and scrub to woodland areas, all of which are vital for nesting songbirds, small mammals and bats.

Located on the outskirts of Aomori, Japan, at the foot of the Hakkoda Mountains, Seiryū-ji (青龍寺) Temple has extensive beautiful grounds and buildings.
