Inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. A black and white Lightroom edit of a previous upload.

The Church is considered extremely holy in Christianity being both the site where Jesus was crucified, and the location of Jesus's tomb.

Birnie Loch is located to the north east of Fife and is an artificial body of water that was created as a bi-product of the quarrying industry in this area. Once exhausted and of resources and flooded the company that owned the land presented it to the local authority and through the help of community funding was turned into a nature reserve.

The Loch is a nice area to visit and great for kids to see the local wildlife but it’s not the best of landscape subjects because it is just too groomed and sterile of detail. There are no docks or piers in the water, no rocks making up the banks and most of the water is inaccessible to people. I’m sure that the lack of access is great for the birds but not so much if you want to get to the shore for some interest in the foreground of your shot.

This shot is taken from just about the only location on the loch that is both accessible and where the sunset can be seen. Unfortunately these reeds were the only thing I could find that can be considered interesting but at least they catch the light nicely and give a little bit of contrasting colour to the dominant blue of the sky.

Located in the constellation Monoceres, an amazing number of emission, reflection and dark nebulas await the wide field astrophotographer. The field of view in this photo represents about 10 degrees of the night sky. Going from left to right, we can see the spectacular Rosette Nebula glowing rich in the hydrogen alpha, and on the right is the Cone Nebula (NGC 2264). Inside the Cone nebula is the Christmas Tree cluster, an open cluster of stars.

Angkor Thom"Great City", located in present-day Cambodia, was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII.:378–382:170

It covers an area of 9 km², within which are located several monuments from earlier eras as well as those established by Jayavarman and his successors. At the centre of the city isJayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north.

Map of Central Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom was established as the capital of Jayavarman VII's empire, and was the centre of his massive building programme. One inscription found in the city refers to Jayavarman as the groom and the city as his bride.:121

Angkor Thom seems not to be the first Khmer capital on the site, however. Yasodharapura, dating from three centuries earlier, was centred slightly further northwest, and Angkor Thom overlapped parts of it. The most notable earlier temples within the city are the former state temple of Baphuon, and Phimeanakas, which was incorporated into the Royal Palace. The Khmers did not draw any clear distinctions between Angkor Thom and Yashodharapura: even in the fourteenth century an inscription used the earlier name.:138 The name of Angkor Thom—great city—was in use from the 16th century.

The last temple known to have been constructed in Angkor Thom was Mangalartha, which was dedicated in 1295. Thereafter the existing structures continued to be modified from time to time, but any new creations were in perishable materials and have not survived.

The Ayutthaya Kingdom, led by King Borommarachathirat II, sacked Angkor Thom, forcing the Khmers under Ponhea Yat to relocate their capital southeast.:29

Angkor Thom was abandoned some time prior to 1609, when an early western visitor wrote of an uninhabited city, "as fantastic as the Atlantis of Plato".:140 It is believed to have sustained a population of 80,000–150,000 people.

Located on Rue Norvins, which is associated with famous artist Vincent Van Gogh (and whose final resting place is Auvers-Sur-Oise), you’ll find Le Consulat Café on a little land island of its own. Wander in and you’ll find a menu of typically French wines, an extensive beverage list and plenty of French cuisine, as well as plenty of vintage charm.

Le Consulat Café and restaurant has been open for decades, and as a result, has witnessed plenty of changes in the surrounding district over the years. But in spite of change, the café has remained opened and can be visited today. Here, in Montmartre, you can really walk in the footsteps of the greats.

After all, the café was visited by plenty of the acclaimed artists, writers and painters that flocked to the area in the 19th century. Names of note include Picasso, Sisley, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Monet to name but a few.

Lake Montriond is located in the Haute-Savoie in the French Chablais region. The lake is frequented by fishermen and especially by walkers and hikers.

The lake of Montriond was created by the collapse of a part of the mountain of Nantaux in the North West. This geological event, which is not dated with certainty (from 4500 years to 3 or 4 centuries!), caused a dam on the torrent which ran at the bottom of the valley, hence the

formation of the lake.

Located at 4946 Dundas Street West is this Village of Islington mural, titled The Pub with No Beer, by John Kuna, 2009. The accompanying plaque for this mural says:

Coordinates: 43.64814 -79.52947

Map

This mural depicts a scene from the prohibition era (ca. 1928) with a pop truck rounding up empty bottles outside of the old Islington Hotel, which was once a local watering hole. At the time Burnhamthorpe Road was on the west side of the hotel and the hotel's drive-shed stretched across what is now the intersection of Dundas St. West and Burnhamthorpe Road and Cordova Avenue.

Malin Head is located on the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland and is the most northerly point of the island of Ireland.

Malin Head gives its name to the Malin sea area. There is a weather station on the head, which is one of 22 such stations whose reports are broadcast as part of the BBC Shipping Forecast.

I love to listen to the shipping forecast, even though I don't fully understand it. It sounds like some sort of nautical poetry full of remote, wild coastal names and obscure weather terminology.

Malin:

Wind - West 5 to 7, then backing southwest 4 or 5 later.

Sea State - Rough or very rough.

Weather - Occasional rain or showers.

Visibility - Good, occasionally moderate.

When I hear it, I imagine some poor mariners, tossed and battered by the elements, listening to the same broadcast, hoping for some good news of better weather to come.

To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

Located on the Italian Riviera, Riomaggiore, Italy is a charming village perched on a terraced hillside high above the Ligurian coast. Known for its colorful stone houses that seem stacked on top of one another, and its harbor filled with traditional fishing boats, Riomaggiore is part of the string of five villages that make up the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO Heritage Site. It's also one of the most sought-after travel destinations in all of Italy.

The village was originally founded in the 8th century by Greek refugees anxious to take advantage of the naturally rich soil and plentiful sea life surrounding it. The Riomaggiore that we see today, however, actually dates back to the 13th century. It sits in a valley between two steep hills and was named for the stream, Rivus Major, that flows beneath it.

This castle, located in Pouilly in the Mâconnais region, is unfortunately marred by unsightly electric wires. So, I removed most of these wires from the photo using my photo editing software. It took some time, but the result was worth it! It allows us to appreciate the beauty of this residence.

Someone should really consider burying some of the power lines in this area!

The Blue Hole, located in Dwejra on the west coast of Gozo Island, is one of Malta's most iconic and impressive natural sites. Carved over thousands of years by the erosion of limestone, this natural pool of deep blue water communicates directly with the open sea through an underwater tunnel, creating a scene of great beauty and drama.

On the surface, the Blue Hole appears as an almost circular natural pool, surrounded by light-colored, jagged rock.

The Blue Hole is considered one of the best diving spots in the Mediterranean, attracting divers from all over the world. The tunnel that connects the pool to the open sea leads to a vertical wall full of cracks, arches, and geological formations, inhabited by groupers, moray eels, octopuses, and schools of coastal fish.

Malin Head (Irish: Cionn Mhálanna) is located on the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Republic of Ireland and is the most northerly point of the island of Ireland. The northernmost tip is the headland named Banba's Crown located at latitude 55.38ºN. Malin Head gives its name to the Malin sea area. There is a weather station on the head, which is one of 22 such stations whose reports are broadcast as part of the BBC Shipping Forecast.

Ptolemy's Geography (2nd century AD) described a point called Βορειον (Boreion, "the northern") which probably referred to Malin Head.

Banba's Crown on Malin Head is the most northerly point of the Irish mainland. Banba was one of the mythical queens of Ireland. Banba's Crown is about 16 km (10 mi) north of the village of Malin. The island of Inishtrahull is further north, located approximately 10 km (6 mi) north east of Malin Head. Further north still is the most northerly landfall of Ireland, Tor Beg rock.

Malin Head is home to small businesses such as pubs, restaurants, shops and a large call centre called Forward Emphasis International, which employs many of the local residents.

The Old Railroad Trestle

(located in River Walk, downtown Murphy NC)

This old trestle crosses the Valley River and carries the rail that once conneced Murphy to Andrews, NC.

Archeological evidence indicates that this is not the original railroad bridge built when the railroad connected Murphy to points east. When the river is very low, you might be able to observe old wooden footers under the existing bridge that would have been the foundation for an earlier, wooden trestle.

These old wooden footers would have been built on shore, then floated to position before being sunk and filled with rocks to hold them in place. The wooden trestle would have been built up from this new foundation.

Just when the newer steel bridge replaced the wooden trestle is not known exactly. Presumably the new bridge was needed to carry larger and heavier trains necessary to service this growing area.

This beautiful old steel bridge stands silent now. It stands now as a monument to busier times. No train has crossed here since THE LAST TRAIN LEFT MURPHY ON JULY 4, 1992.
