Another Light Trail shot from my last morning in NYC, this time of the Flat Iron Building, again using the Live Composite mode. This trip was the first time I had used this particular mode, despite having had the camera for over 18 months. It’s great for these types of shots as it takes the guess work out as you can see the image build up on the screen and just close the shutter when you’re satisfied 😀
I had hoped for a clearer sky in order to get some colour as the sun came up. Unfortunately it it was just leaden skies which then turned to rain, which was nice (not).

I had planned to photograph from the pier by the fire boat station near the Hawthorne Bridge, but some families had already set up chairs over an hour and half ahead of the show; which turned out to be great, since the breeze was blowing smoke from the fireworks in that direction, and later a fire boat with extremely bright hazard lights parked itself on the river there.
So I walked north along the East Bank Esplanade to this location just south SE Yamhill, which turned out to be facing dead on to the side of the fireworks barge. Another plus with this location is built in seating along the edge of the pathway allowing you set up the camera comfortably off the pathway with the camera right in front of you while sitting there. I had never photographed from this close to the barge before, where the higher fireworks end up almost directly overhead, so I quickly turned the camera vertical and even then had to tilt the camera back a good bit, and still some of the higher fireworks went out of frame. The building (behind the right of the fireworks) with the stripe of green light along the top is 18 stories tall.
This years fireworks came in a greater variety of colors, styles, and forms than recent years making for an impressive show. Two exposures totaling 49 0.5sec frames using Olympus Live Composite Exposure Mode. Portland, Oregon OM25854,57-Happy Fireworks Fridays!
Influences from 2 CMEs, yielded aurora activity forecast of KP=7 (G3), but the aurora was a no show, even in single exposures. But there was plenty of light from: car lights, flashlights, satellites, airplanes, star light, and a meteor. 2 Live Composite exposures (comprising 85 15sec exposures, for a total exposure time of 21m15sec) combined in Photoshop. This image is a composite (using a mask) of two photos, one single 1 sec exposure and one 100 1.0sec frames composited in camera Olympus Live Composite Exposure Mode image. With a polarizer to help cut through the haze; and a 10stop ND to get the shutter speed down to 1 sec, to use Live Composite exposures have to be 0.5sec or longer. This viewpoint on Highway 206 about 3 miles SE of Wasco and 52.5mi NE of Mt Hood with windmills 3 and 4 miles away was unknown to me when I headed out there to photograph windmills in Sherman County, Oregon. This one comprised of 67 0.5sec Live Composite frames (which are combined in camera) equivalent to a 34sec exposure. Bridge, Willamette River, Portland, Oregon OM4233

Some of the fireworks during the finale were insanely bright, bringing out this crazy lens flare. 13 0.5sec frames composited in camera using Olympus Live Composite Exposure Mode. Portland, Oregon OM25865-Happy Fireworks Flare Friday!

Night traffic passing along the A52 and under the Nottingham tram system's Ningbo Friendship Bridge.
All I saw were some random bubbles on a muddy creek, but David Wang simply said Live Composite and I knew immediately that bubble trails was what he meant. So I set up the tripod, added a 6 stop ND to the lens (to get the exposure time down to ½ sec) and took a series of what I thought would just be Live Composite test exposures, only to find this in post. Thanks David! Champoeg Creek, Champoeg State Park, Oregon OM3444
