Most of the bursts from last night's show were lower in the sky, but the occasional taller bursts filled the frame quite nicely.

This was the last burst of fireworks from Sunday night's Pride celebration. The big finale preceded this shot, but I left my camera running just in case and this blast did appear.

I used a bit of trickery to get this shot with straight verticals. I shot this with my Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm lens pointed up and added sky at the top before bending the verticals perpendicular to the ground. Those two people in the foreground stayed very still for this long exposure shot. :-)

I'd like to try this shot again when the Voigtlander 10.5mm lens is released.

I didn't notice the gaps in the traffic until I loaded the file on my computer. I let the exposure run for about 25 seconds and figured that was long enough without tempting a sudden bout of vibration on the Manhattan Bridge. I guess the traffic on the bridge would be lighter for extended periods deep in the night, but of course traffic on the FDR would also be lighter.

Thanks to Gary Alan Brink for the inspiration!

The construction has finally completed at the north end of Empire Fulton Ferry State Park. I've wanted to shoot the Manhattan Bridge from this perspective for quite awhile and finally got my chance. This is a Live Composite shot that caught boat traffic, a subway train on the bridge and a bus or truck on top of the bridge.

Here's another look at 200 West Street and traffic down below. I didn't like the boat traffic when I was taking the shots, but now I think it fills an otherwise empty space. I didn't let the exposure run enough for all the traffic lanes to fill up, so I'll have to watch for that next time.

Troisième jeudi étoilé de 2018 à Istres sur l'Etang de l'Olivier.

I'm gonna call the previous day's effort a "trial run." This morning, I found a much better spot from which to shoot my light trails leading down Mountain View Drive into the heart of Whitehorse. It was also a frostier morning today, which just felt a little more natural.

In this image, the lights of town are complimented by the morning glow beginning over Grey Mountain to the south east. Traffic on the road was light that early in the morning, but there were enough vehicles coming and going to make some decent light trails anyway.

The photo was taken with the OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 7-4mm f/2.8. I had the camera mounted onto my, almost forty year old Manfrotto Tripod and used Live Composite Mode, which takes an initial timed exposure for the scene and then a second set of exposures that only record new light sources. It is a wonderful facility which allow one to get perfectly exposued night shots, along with all sorts of artificial light trials without blowing anything out. Thinking back to the night shots I used to take with film and then with my 7D, Olympus's Live Composite Mode makes this sort of photo almost sinfully easy.

The photo was processed from RAW in Lightroom with adjustments to white balance and minor tweaks only. It is uncropped.

Chatsworth Fireworks 1/11/2024. Long exposures using "live composite "settings on the Olympus OM 1 (around fifteen 4 second exposures) taken from the River Wye bank in total darkness with a rising dampening and swirling mist which appears to have reflected some of the colours of the fireworks.
